Character TransfersFollow

Ok- Only the rules keep this message clean- I will try to convey a suitable level of ire without the use of profanity.

Many moons ago, my gf bought a copy of eq2 for me as a gift. She activated it, and created a character based on an inside joke we had. A good time was had by all. She got me into EQ2, and we quested together on Oasis. It was nice to have a gamer girlfriend. But this halcyon existence was not to last. I shant bore you with the details, but suffice it to say the breakup was ugly. I was left with my EQ2 account. But stuck with the silly name she used for my station account. The silly name that brought up painful memories. But Station accounts cannot be renamed.

Along came KoS. I noticed that KoS included a full version of EQ2! So, I purposed that I would create a new station account- with a name that I wanted- and expunge the bad memories.

Think good thoughts for me folks. This is where the nightmare begins, and I'm struggling to keep my vitriol family friendly.

I bought KoS and DoF at best buy, and created the new accounts. All is good. Then I tried to transfer. And got an account validation error. Surprised, I played a new character on my shiny new account while I waited for CS to get back with me. And waited. And waited. Finally, I called.

Me: Explains tale of woe
CS: Yes, your old account does not have KoS and DoF, so you can't transfer.
Me: The website doesn't say this.
CS: Yes it does, it clearly states... (read off the website)
In the event that you request a character transfer between an account which has added content, such as any Adventure Packs or EQII expansions, and an account without such additional content, your character will only have access to the applicable zones available on the account to which it is transferred. For example, if you request a transfer from an account with access to The Bloodline Chronicles to an account which does not have access to that Adventure Pack, your character will not be able to enter the restricted, instanced zones for that Adventure Pack.
Me: Yes? That only says that you won't have access to the content. I know.
CS: But you have to have it.
Me: Where does it say this? I just spent $60. I'm not spending $60 more for an account I'm going to transfer.
CS: Sorry. There's nothing I can do.
Me: Nothing? Does this seem ... odd to you? That I spent $60, and some obscure rule is going to make that $60 go to waste since I can't use the codes on the account with my character now, and he's too high a level to give up. Is there someone you can talk to?
CS: Hold on.
...interminable hold music...
CS: I can transfer the expansions to your old account.
Me: Great! What about the character I've played for the last week?
CS: He will be lost.
Me: Great... why can you transfer expansions, but not characters?
CS: That's not my department. That's character transfer.
Me: Ok... can I speak to them?
CS: They don't have telephone support. You have to e-mail them.
Me: I did... no response. But I'll wait.

a bit later I check my e-mail. Character transfer has responded, and lo and behold, they answer in the same way she did quoting the same paragraph. I respond back, "But that paragraph doesn't say anything about you can't transfer?" Their response. "Yes it does."

Am I missing something? I suggest they may want to check the verbiage... and they say the verbiage is fine. Fine?!?

Ok... so I call CS again.
Me: Explains what has gone before
CS: Yes. Nothing I can do.
Me: Ok.. I'm really stuck here... how about this. Can you disable the offending expansions, so I can just buy KoS for the old account so I can transfer.
CS: Yes... I can do that.

I try to transfer... same error.

Me: Ok... gettiing same problem
CS: Really? Oh... let's see. Ok. The Credit Cards don't match. I need the original CC number.
Me: D'oh! My ex bought it, and we aren't exactly speaking.
CS: Sorry... nothing I can do.
Me: What?!? So I'm stuck... Just out of luck... and $90 for the expansions I bought?
CS: Let me see what I can do.
...interminably long hold time...
CS: Try the transfer again.

The transfer works...

Me: Could this have been the problem the whole time? Did I just waste money buying the expansion?
CS: No. You needed it. Ok.. you're fine? Thanks for calling SOE.

I suppose I should be happy I was able to get anything done... but somehow, I feel angry... and pouring my soul out has helped only marginally.

Lessons Learned? Never accept a gift of an MMO that has already been opened. Or something like that. Oh well... I guess I'll post this as many places as I can as therapy...

If I am reading this correctly you should actually be very happy with the end results. It is strictly against SOE's policy to transfer any character from one account not owned by the same person. You just moved a mountain my friend.

I feel your pain in trying to get them to understand exactly what the issue was though.

Do you still play on Oasis?
