When EQ2 first came out, I was a die-hard Ultima online player. Old school I know.. the original MMPORPG, the daddy of it all. When I saw the advertisements for this, I knew I had to try it out.. It looked amazing. And sure enough, the beautiful graphics enveloped me and I was a full-on hooked convert... poof went the UO subscription. Right away, I missed a lot of things about Ultima, but the sheer beauty of EQ2 blinded me. The sad thing is, in the past year the novelty has worn off, and what is left is a very boring game. No houses to build, no real player made world, just an SOE made world devoid of any personality and nothing to do but XP. Soooo, back to UO I went. Now that is ruined too.. I got spoiled on the graphics of EQ2, and it has made UO feel flat, hard to get excited over. Why can't we have both.. great gameplay that allows a world to evolve and shape itself around its players, right down to the landscape by homes built, endless combinations of skills to make each player unique, but enjoy the eye candy and realism that technology offers? Whyyyy? Now Im stuck flipping between the two, not enjoying either. I spose I'll blow a few bucks and try another that sounds interesting. But I know what I want,UO with better graphics,or, EQ2 with more freedom and sadly, I dont think that will ever happen *sigh*

I will prolly get flamed for that but hell...

Seems like there is a game upcoming that might be what youre looking for. It's called Vanguard saga of heroes and is being designed by the former EQ1 developpers. There will be actual graphics, players built houses and village, ships etc.

www.vanguardsoh.com if you want to see for yourself, the game is not out yet.

But i know how you feel. I recently retired my level 63 templar, even though the expansion was kinda interesting. PvP killed my guild, 3/4 of the ppl from my guild left to play on those servers. So when you log in and cant enjoy the game because most of your friends left, its not even fun in the first place...so why continue ?
Anyway. There is a lot of ppl waiting for Vanguard to come out and now that I am SOE free, I will definately give it a try.
Just thought that it might be the game you are looking for.

Server Merger and PVP has killed alot of guilds. Our guild lost a good chunk of people from it. For starters one of the officers took advantage of the free move log and several followed, then we had a few went to PVP.

I played UO for awhile and I couldn't stand it. It was just way to complecated and seemed like once you lost newbie status you couldn't go anywhere without a gorup without some sort of monster getting you. I will give UO credit though they had absolutely outstanding customer service. If you did a petition in game it wasn't 10 minutes and a person who actually understood the game was there to assist you. They also actually had a TOLL FREE number and get this....they actually answer the phones!

I wish eq2 did do more with player houses though, they are quite boreing the way it is now. I don't bother doing anything with my inn room, I mean why should I? I am willing to bet there has never been anybody in my inn room other then myself. I mean we got off-line selling so no reason for anything to go in there?

You could always look into getting a better place in a different suburb. We have a nice 3-room 2-story place we call our guild house, that includes an outdoor patio for BBQ's.

Sure they cost more, but after equipping it with rent and status reducing furniture, it will very affordable. Our buy-in was around 1.5pp plus a big chunk of status, but not the rent is down to 2.5g.

Thanks for the suggestion of Vanguard, I'll check it out. And really the whole thing with housing in EQ2 is not that you can get a nicer room, thats not the point. I loooove building homes and will probably be the biggest reason I leave EQ2. And it's fun wandering around a world seeing what fantastic things other people have done. Then of course the owner can place all his/her rares and other goodies for people to drool over ;) I'm sure there are some wonderful things people have done with their rooms in EQ2, but like someone said, who's gonna see 'em? It's all about showing off hehe. If they ever add a build feature to the game, I'll probably come back. Who knows, the game is still young, lots of changes still to come. But for now, I'm going to adventure elsewhere. I will never tell anyone EQ2 is a bad game, it's just missing a lot of things I have come to enjoy.

It is not quite the same, but City of Villians allows supergroups to build bases. When your SG gets to a decent level you can craft useful tools and create a nice looking base.

I have seen some nice unique bases.
