So I left EQ2 in march of last year as a level 14 summoner, and I came back last night and logged in for the first time, but I came back as a...
level 14 necromancer?!?! granted, I was working toward the necro job anyway, but man, did they change this game a lot or what?
So with that random n00b start, just a couple of questions...
The necro class plays a whole lot more like Warlock from WoW since I returned, but is there any new useful spells or abilities I should know about that may have been signifigantly altered or added since I left?

Any help would be great, the game is a blast and seems to be more fun this time around, but the whole summoner/necro thing really threw me off.

SOE did away with the progressive advancement (pick a class at level 10, again at 20). Now when you start a new character, you pick your class and that's it!

Necromancers have had a rework on pets, each with a new and much better graphic. Know, though that Necro's don't have the pet buff procs like Conjurer's do, but a better ability to give and take life from your pet and yourself.

There have been a ton of changes, a few worth mentioning...
- Make sure you Attune all your gear, otherwise it's not working for you.
- With Kingdon of Sky there is a new Advancement Ability system in place that starts giving you points at level 20. Type L to bring up the window and spend your points.
- Armor will now eventually turn grey, so make sure you always look for upgrades.
- INT is your primary stat and determines how much damage you do with your spells. Get it up as high as you can with equipment.
- You will get spells as you have before, plus a periodic racial trait pick (glowing green plus-sign). Go for INT boosts and abilities that boost your power pool.

It may be worth it to start a new character from the revamped beginner island to get that experience. I did and it was a blast.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the help, I went ahead and started a SK just to see how things play now, they actually made some nice improvements.

Another good improvement is your tank pets can actually taunt now. Back in the day I played a conjuror to 50 and I could not take grey mobs because my pet didn't taunt. Now I can kill green heroics sometimes like other classes with my necro. Pet taunting was a much needed update.

Hmm, I seem to remember the tank pet always having some sort of taunt, in fact it got a slight nerf with a longer re-use. I know my earth pet takes longer to get agro, but keeps it better.

I remember back in the day I couldn't take a green ^^ mob because my pet would not hold agression. This was a LONG time ago as in like 1 month after the game came out. If I put 2 dots on a mob and cast a heal I had agression. If I would cast heal more then 3 times in a fight...I had agression. IT is ALOT better then it was back then.

Now I can't get agression from a mob even if I try to.
