Wizard/Warlock. No, I won't send you an email if you are too lazy to return here to check your own post.

Apparently unbalanced, game-breaking damage...

As far as I know they are called "classes", but meh, don't listen to me I have only been playing a couple days...

I thought I already answered that...Wizard/Warlock.

However, they are not "needed" in a party. A party can consist of any mix of classes (jobs). A generic well-balanced party mix to take out groups and dungeon crawl would be like this:
2 Tanks (to gain and keep agro, while getting beat up)
3 DPS (to do all the damage)
1 Healer (to keep everyone alive)

If you try to take out named or Epics, you'll need to replace members with another healer and an Illusionist (mezzing, stunning, stifling).

If you want to be in high demand, select a Priest. Healers are always popular to keeping the group alive, and some groups can't go in a dungeon without one. However, it is a double-edged sword, as a group only needs 1, possibly 2 healers. So if all groups are already stocked with a healer, you'll be on your own.

Priests are also at the bottom of the DPS food chain, and you will do pitiful damage.

Can vouch for the low dps part. Was mentoring yesterday and had to unmentor to try and escort some people out by killing stuff. Lets just say it didnt work. A level 52 templar beating on a lvl 26 heroic mob turned out to take a couple minutes. Granted it couldnt hurt me but then it could sure kill everyone else when the adds show up. :P

The beauty of EQ2 is that it's a lot more flexible and balanced than FFXI and other MMO's. There is no class that is must have in a group, and conversely, no class that nobody wants in their group. Situations like that indicate poor design.

If you're really want to push the envelope and fight hard MoB's then a group needs a tank (any fighter) to hold aggro and a healer (any priest) to keep the tank up. Beyond that any other class will add something to your group.

In certain situations some class combinations will be more effective than others, but there are an infinite variety situations to be found.

Truth be told, any combination of classes can work. Heck, 6 Enchanters who really want to play together can find something to fight.

Ive found this to be true to an extent. You normally will need a fighter and preist for hard mobs but you also have to be sure that your fighter and priest mesh. Mainly this is seen with your avoidance tanks (monks/bruiser) and reactive healers (Templar/Inquisiters). These classes do not compliment each other well and are hard to work with more difficult mobs.

If you are not trying to fight several lvls over you about any group will work and you can find something to fight. Granted 6 healers you probably wont die but unless you are fighting undead it might take you a while :P.

A healer seems to get a group before anybody. ITs not uncommon to see 2 or 3 groups begging for a healer to get going. More often then enough you don't HAVE to have a healer, but tell that to the other 4 players who are threating to leave if you try to kill 1 mob without a healer. There has been times when I have used palaidn heals/ward to keep a tank alive while killing heroic mobs and gaining good exp. However when/if we got adds it got ugly and somebody usually died. Before SOE upped heroics from ^^ to ^^^ you coudl get away without healers.

Tank can get a group fairly easy, however the way the game is laid out Tanks genreally don't get into high level gorups. Its not uncommon to see say a lvl 40 healer with some low 40's DPS asking for a lvl 45+ tank.

Really any DPS has about the same chance as getting a group as another. While some do more damage then others they each have their own pros and cons. Like Warlocks can do good damage, but pet classes can have pets off-tank and add abit extra stun power. While rangers might not do as much as a Warlock they give speed buffs and Stuns etc.

Everquest 2 really has pretty good class balancing. I have yet to see a tank out DPS a DPS reguardless of gear.

Well - given that you've played all classes to 25 I'd think you know better than most people here.

My own personal experience is:

Best burst damage: Wizard/Warlock
Best sustained damage: Necro/Conjuror
Best melee damage: Assassin
Best ranged physical damage: Ranger (kind of no contest here)
