Hey all,

Im new to EQ2, and currently not able to play for a decent amount of time due to computer difficulties, which means im waitin on the machine to arrive HOPEFULLY next week...

Anyhow, I love fighting other players, but at the same time monsters. I was wondering how is the pvp system within this game? Can anyone give me a detailed explaination on the whole system, or is it basically just anyone attack anyone they want no matter the level, etc.

Thanks ahead of time!

I have a 18 Necromancer on the VOX server. The PvP from what little of the zones ive been in thus far, have been 8 levels to attack someone lower than you. So if you were a Level 18 player, the lowest player you could attack in that zone is a level 10. However, there is a mentoring system in the game, which I dont fully understand how it works. This allows a higher level character thats out of that 8 level range, say a level 20 or higher, mentoring someone that is level 10 or soemthing. That level 20 would be able to attack people lower than level 10! I like the idea of the PvP, good vs evil myself, it just makes sense in Everquest. Though, its very frustrating at times, when you are xping, only to get jumped by a player higher level than you, or even worse, a full group of people. I like to solo xp alot, so im like a stray deer away from the heard... So i get prey'd on alot! I made another necro on Nejena, and will play on that server for the most part. I will keep my necro and occasionally play on vox when my friend plays.

Mentoring lowers your level to that of the person you're mentoring. So if a level 20 mentors a level 10, the level 20 effectively becomes level 10. All their spells, skills and gear get "nerfed" to level 10 range. So it's not like they're using an exploit to gank lower levels than they should.

When you mentor, the player being mentored gets an experience bonus, while the mentoring player earns experience as if he was at the lower level. Otherwise everything might be grayed out to her and she'd be earning no experience at all.

That is why I have never liked PVP. For starters a lvl 10 isn't goign to stand a chance against a lvl 18, at least I seriously doubt it. And there is nothing worse then some idiot who is 8 levels above you ganking you when your half dead fighting a mob. Then to make it worse they taunt you with tells about how great they are for killing a person 8 levels lower then them in the middle of combat with a npc.

I honestly don't see how people stand PVP. The ones that crack me up though are the people who get on PVP servers and then start complaining they can't complete a quest because its being controlled by a rival faction etc. I remember a time when a guy couldn't complete his shawl quest in eq1 because evil was protecting a velious zone. HEy thats the kind of people you get in PVP. I also seen a funny one in WOW if anybody caught my out of topic post a couple of weeks ago. Basically the guy and his GF was playing and he was Pling her and a high level person ganked her and he went crazy. He was posting bounties and everything and talkign bad about the person because they killed his GF.

Anyways like I Say in all PVP topics as long as its not forced on me, let the kids have their fun. Oh for people into PVP shadowbane is now 100% free. I was ready to play it until I seen it is completely PVP enviroment.

It sucks.

They take your money as well. I made a character on the PvP server. It would have been nice for them to say that 1/3 to 1/2 of your coin would be taken upon death in the server description then I would never have made a character. I didn't mind being killed by people who I stood not chance against(one DOT spell from a player 8 levels higher is instant death. You rather try and heal it and get beat or run while you die alittle bit slower), but it is wrong for a newbie in a newbie zone to lose the money necessary to buy new armor that he has been gathering since the Isle of Refuge in under a minute. 80 silver reduced to 20 silver in two deaths.

The so-called "honorable kill" is flawed in that on the second time I was killed(which ultimately convinced me that it was pointless to even attempt to make any progress on such a server) I had full health, but nearly zero power meaning I couldn't really put up a defense or offense nor could I run(I was rasing my healing skill). I'm talking to a quest NPC on the dock when a group of Freeportians pop in and instantly unload on me. From a RP perspective(It was the RP/PVP server) I should not be seeing freeportians right next to the city gates unless there are guards to protect us. Could you imagine people be killed on the U.S. side of the mexican board and nobody ups security in the area where the killings happen? And there is nothing honorable about a level 18 killing a level 8 even if I had full health and power. It's just easy money for the people who started on those servers when they first opened. Good luck to players who are going to be stunted by the older ones.

I could have sworn that I read in the above link to the OBoards, that you were unable to communicate with the opposite faction...can anyone clarify that?

Edit: question # 2...

Is there somewhere to store your money to prevent this? (bank, your house, an alt toon?)

True, the only way to communicate with the other side is emotes. You can't send them tells.
