Hi, FINALLY have come to the conclusion I will play EQ2 for my next MMORPG! I bought it tonight, and got Next day shipping on it. I was just wondering, if they gave an option to choose a server to play on, or.. do they just throw you into one? Also, Any suggestions on servers? I really would like one, that I wont have to wait hours to get a group to level, as was common in FFXI >.> (pending on the class, 3-4 hours of waiting, possibly days without a party!) The Gamepad everyone has been telling me is good, is out of stock everywhere, So ill give the keyboard/mouse a shot... I hope I can adjust!

You do get to pick your server. Despite what many people will claim they are all really about the same now. Used to some was more populated then others, but with the server mergers recently its all about the same.

Try Fry's/Outpost Their website says it is in stock now. I've been shopping there for years.

cool it is in stock there. After all this thought about which game to play and then controllers and everything, I just wanna play now. Now I need to choose a race/class, dammit... more decisions. I am interested in the PvP servers, I trust they are run similar to the WoW ones? What I mean by that, is, I can lvl my character up and take on quests and what not as normal? It justs adds the PvP element of the opposite allianment ( good vs evil races) ? I think it sounds cool, but im also wondering what the population is like on the US pvp server. I dont want to join a server with few people on it.. I want to have the best chance to have people to group with for exp. Also, Do you have to pay for extra characters?

I have no idea how they are set up but I'm sure you can find the complete rulesets at the SOE site.

Your account will let you have a total of 6 characters across any servers you like.

On the PvP server, you will be either good or evil, and cannot group with the opposing side. Guards from the opposing side will also chase and try to kill you. There are also level restrictions regarding level difference on killing the opposin gplayer. The further you get from your home city, the larger the difference and greater the danger. Here's the details. Here's some additional PvP info.

On non-PvP, you can group with anyone of any alignment. Guards will still chase you, though.

You will get 6 character slots, and for a few extra dollors you get 2 more slots plus other web site benefits.

Any race can be any class, but all evil races start in Freeport, and all good races start in Qeynos. Some races are neutral and you can pick your starting city. When you create your race/class it will all be presented to you.

When picking a server, consider Najena. It has a large and active population, players in all zones, guilds large and small, and a stable economy.

And when you get there, look me up. I can help you get started with some gear, spell upgrades, directions and coin.

Good luck!

Edit: Added other PvP article link

Cool, thanks for all of your responses to my many questions! Im pretty excited to try this game. I think ill start out on the Najena server. Though, im very interested in the whole PvP server, but, I dont wanna keep getting killed by other players when im trying to learn how to play at first. Once I learn how to play, I think the PvP server would be very cool, and I want to give it a shot.

For real?! I looked at the main EQ2 site, and was looking at the Dwarves for instance... They stated they could be a Fighter or healer type only? In EQOA I had 2 high lvl toons... one was a DELF Necro, which was awsome fun, and the second was a Dwarf Paladin, Turned Doomseeker. I liked Both equally, and grinded my way to the top with the Dwarf, cuz I wanted to be a Doomseeker.

Definitely for real. You may have been looking at the EQ1 site, that is actually true about Dwarves in that game.

You also may be looking at the "recommended" classes. Dwarves make good fighters due to their strength and stamina and make good healers due to decent wisdom or intelligence (I can never remember what those priests use). But like Lyd said, you can indeed be anything that you want. Troll Paladin? Go for it. High Elf Necromancer? Sure thing. Let your imagination run wild.

Very nice... I cant wait to play. When this game first had come out, I really wanted to play it, but lacked a PC well enough equiped to play it. It also seems all the Best MMORPG's are for PC, and they also have a wide variety. All I really need for my spare time at night, is a good MMORPG and Socom III. Dont really need any other games, I just bounce around from the two lol...

In EQ2 no stat has any effect on healing power, it's determined soley by the spell and/or your level. For some reason they thought that would create imbalance to link healing to wisdom. Wisdom has a direct effect on Power pool and Resists. The net effect is prists don't really have a primary stat, unlike other classes (Please correct me):

Intelligence directly effects spell damage. (Nukers)
Strength effects weapon damage (I think). (Fighters and Scouts.)
Agility makes you harder to hit. (Scouts and Tanks)
Stamina gives you more hit points. (Tanks)

Most priests do tend to go for Wisdom for the increased Power pool to cast more heals. Do heals use more power than nukes or combat arts, in general?
