Buying items from in game NPC sellersFollow

#1 Mar 02 2006 at 10:13 AM Rating: Default
Are the NPC's that you see in the trade guilds all selling the same items that the NPC sellers outside the trade guilds. Example is the NPC seller for smithing guild sell different items than the NPC seller in the guild that specializes in making spells? When you buy the bulletin board and place in your house your items that you have for sale show up in the trade window of the crafting guild NPC sellers.

The fence seller in East Freeport out from the docks on the smal island does have different stuff. How do you list your items for sale with him? I notice his fees are higher but he seems to list higher end items for sale than the trade guild and NPC sellers in town.

Hmmm...are you referring to the broker or the wholesaler? If you are referring to the wholesaler whom is positioned at the bottom of the stairs then yes and no. Wholesalers in the outfitter and scholar societies all sell the same fuels. The craftsman society sell the same fuels, plus all the provisioner needs. The main differences are in the recipe books. Each society sells the class specific books. The one society in each town you can join before you choose your sub-profession, sells the same fuels, but also sells sub-combine books for cross crafting. (i.e. Armorers can buy the Apothecary books to make their own WORTS)

If you are referring to the broker, then no, they do not sell different items depending on the society. Brokers act as the medium between players. In essence, the broker is controled by the players.

And here is why: there is a "Fence" broker for both sides. It is comparable to the black market. Being from Freeport, you can buy goods that a Qeynosian has for sale, but you will pay an inflated price. The opposite is also true.

When you look at a regular broker in your city, you will find all items that players of your alignment have for sale. When you look at the Fence broker, you are seeing all the items the other alignment has for sale.

One more thing. If you look at the bottom right of the broker screen it will tell you the commission the broker is taking. Furthermore, in the bottom-middle part of the screen, you can see how the money breaks down. It will say something to the effect of 1g to the Seller, 20s to the broker, which makes the total price out of your pocket, 1g20s.

There are two different merchants in each crafting guild so I'm not sure which one you mean... In Qeynos, the one downstairs sells supplies like fuel and water and also recipe books. These guys have some different stock since you can buy fuel anywhere but you can only buy, say, tailor's books from the guy in the outfitter's guild, etc.

The one upstairs is the broker and sells you all the stuff that players have up for sale and all those guys have the same stuff except the fence - he has stuff from the other starting city and that is why his commission is higher. There is only one fence for Freeport and one for Qeynos.

The only way to list your stuff there is to be from the other city!

If you really want to scrimp and not pay the Broker fee, you can buy it directly from the seller.

At the Broker window you'll see the seller's name, and if he is logged in, "...at Soandso's apartment in Starcrest Commune". Go to that Inn, right click > visit > [Soandso], and you'll be in his place, able to purchase whatever he has for sale, no broker fee.

I was searching the broker for a level 58 Adept III spell. It was listed for sale for 3p 70g. I went to the sellers room and bought it directly from him for 3p.

I think I might choke to death if I had to spend that much money on a single spell... either before or after the discount!!!

I better start earning more if I'm ever gonna get past level 50 with any kind of style...

My recent pet pieve has to be the price of my spells as well. I go out in a group and loot a few adepts around the lvl I am. Bring them back and but them up on the broker. Normally I get around a 1g profit over vendor. Sometimes I have to vendor them because the prices are lower then the vendor. Then when I go to buy my spells they are always around 40g, at least all my heals are. That ends up being a 35g profit for them. Granted I need them so I pay for them.

I find that happens for me as well. I have found one dirge spell that I didnt just buy, but other class spells I either hold for ever or sell to merchants.

I've experienced the same thing but it just might be point of view...

It's like if you went out and bought a green ford, (because it looked unique), and then all of a sudden, all you see on the road are green fords!

Maybe most spells... or the good ones anyway, are high priced on the broker and it just seems like ours are over priced because they're the ones we're actually looking for...

Never the less, it always seems like the stuff I need is valuable while the stuff I loot is crap!

Now, I know this isn't really true because I do make good money selling on the broker it's just kind of disheartening to come back to my room with a bag full of stuff and start looking items up only to find, "oh, that's worth 10s... and that's worth 10s and this... hmmm... this is worth 10c !!!

Much better when I look something up and have to ask, "are those 8 guys really gonna get 10g for that spell???"

(edit to spelling)
