Hoorah for EQFollow

First I want to say that I have no idea how to spell hoorah. I hadn't realized that until I started this posting.

Now for for the hoorah. I have give Sony a big pat on the back for the revamp of the new tutorials on the island. I think it actually now called the Outpost of the Overlord or the Outpost of something (forgot). I started a new character on Qeynos Outpost and really enjoyed the new scenery and "good" side mobs.

What really impressed me was when I decided to create a dark elf. They have really done a great job on seperating the two outposts and making them very individual. On the Overlord outpost you are slaying humans and elves whereas on the "good side" outpost you are slaying spiders and rescuing fallen heroes. There are a lot of details I am leaving out here but you get the idea.

Before the NPC's were the same no matter which island you began on. now they are designed to match your choices of evil and good. When I did the old tutorial over a year ago I didn't see my first lizard until I got to Freeport. Now they are part of the quest givers.

Nice job Sony.

While I have no basis of comparison as I'm new to the game I have to say I really enjoyed the island as well. It made what (to me) seems like a fairly technical game a lot easier to understand and gave you a good bit of experience before stepping you out in to the "real world".

Indeed, it's a much improved place. I kind of wish they had changed the setting a bit, bit to new players, it's all new.

Wish they woudl put artisan books 3 to 9 in there though. can't make any spells on the island. I know they had up to 4 in the old island. Otherwise it is good stuff.

I get your point and I agree with you but since you are a veteran, you could just buy them with your main and pass them through the shared bank.

As far as why they're not available... I think it's because all of those books still contain the "original" recipes, (as opposed to the "extra crispy" ones!), which require subcombines. This might confuse some "true" newbies who are crafting new recipes which all use the new single combine system.

Notice, the only things that can be made on the island so far are unique new recipes like "black coffee" and "sunfish rolls". I'll bet that when the new recipes hit the books, the books hit the island!

Just make sure you do start tradeskills there. I made an alt on a PVP server. Got to the main town, turned in that piece of paper to start the quest and when I did that I dinged 2. Now my dilema was I had no recipes and wasnt high enough level scribe any books so I was stuck. As the Island was pretty easy I just deleted the Character and started over. This might have been fixed though.

I also didn't do any tradeskilling on the Isle with my newest alt. However, once in town, go into your wholesaler & speak with the NPC who does the "Seeking a Profession" quest. This will ding you to artisan level 2.

Then go see the tradeskill supplies vendor in there and hail him. He will ding you artisan level 3 AND give you your first set of recipes.

Confusing I know, but it works.

PS: I found this info on the official forums' crafting board, can't take credit for it myself. Smiley: smile

I did the same thing. I left the outpost and hadn't spoken with the tradeskill starter. I then visited the little gnome in the Willow Wood tradeskill zone for the xp and the books and found I couldn't make the white tea because I had no recipes in my book.

I thought at first it was a bug and reported it as such. <groan>

Then I decided to hail every npc in the zone and see if there was a solution. That's when I discovered that the person behind the counter who gives you your collection tasks was the key. He gave me my first book of recipes. I was able to make the tea and reach level 2.
