I've just bought EQ2, and so I'm still new to the whole MMORPG scene.

I've got my note from Gregory Collins (Qeynos, Queen's Colony zone). I go down into the basement with supplies I've gathered, etc, but haven't a clue what to do from there. There aren't any guys in there to train me. Maybe I'm just missing something?

OK. First, decide what you want to make and find that station. Lets pick something easy and useful like food/drink. You'll need a few things first so hit the "B" key, (or is it the "N" key?), to bring up your recipe book.

Find the recipe for black coffee and the one for sunfish rolls, those are the ones you'll make to get started. As you will see, you'll need fish & dough & fuel to make the fish rolls and you'll need coffee & water & more fuel to make the coffee. (You'll also need the fish and the coffee which can both be harvested on the island.) Buy enough water, dough and fuel from the vendor to cover what you have harvested.

Now, before you begin to craft, hit the "K" key and open your knowledge book. Choose the crafting tab and look for the three spell buffs that are associated with cooking (artistry). You can right click and examine them to see what they are all used for.

When you have found the three you need, open up a empty new hot bar and drag the three spell icons down into the new bar.

Now you're ready to make some food and drink!

Right click on the stove and choose "create" - not examine.

Pick the recipe you want from the list, highlight it and hit the button that says "create". you should now see a screen that shows the ingredients you are about to use and what you are going to make.

Hit "begin" and you're off and running!

As the crafting process begins you will see another screen that shows 4 green bars above 4 empty bars. The green bars are the items durability and the empty ones are where you will see your progress in the combine. This progress will show up as blue bars below the green ones.

Whenever you see an icon pop up in the crafting window, match it to one of the 3 you pulled into the new hot bar and click that icon. This is known as "countering an event" and is a good thing. In addition, every 4 or 5 seconds you can click 2 or 3 of those same "buff" icons and increase your progress in the combine.

You will notice that as the combine progresses, the bottom green bar will start to disappear - moving to the left and leaving empty space. If you lose an entire green bar, the item you are crafting will drop in quality level but don't worry too much about that now.

When you have completed 4 blue bars of progress the combine will end and you will have a new item in your inventory. YOu can also stop the combine manually by hitting the stop button anytime you like.

And that's basically it... just rinse and repeat till you have made all the stuff you need.

Have fun!!!

Well, I don't have any recipes. For anything. It's completely blank. Part of what I'm trying to find is where to learn the starting skill for them at. I've got a book (artisan essentials volume 2) thinking it would start me off. It's description is (HANDCRAFTED), level 2, Artisan. So apparently that was wrong. =D I'm still on Queen's Colony, leveling up and doing the beginner quests.

And it's the 'N' key, by the way.

Also, what's a general description of each of the societies (ie; what they do)?

Around the back side of the mage tower in the courtyard of Queen's Colony there is a trap door with a guy standing out front. Try hailing him.

A description of the four societies in each town is as follows:

One is a general society that anyone can join the other three are restricted to people who have chosen one of the three level 10 crafting class paths. One for craftsmen, one for scholars and one for outfitters. You can only join 2 societies, the general ona and the one for your class of artisan. The others will reject you.

Okay, so I found Elusive Commonwealth in Qeynos, near the starting area once leaving Queen's Colony. One of the guys inside who signed me up for the place wants simple white coffee. Where do I find the book with this recipe at?

This is so freaking confusing. >.<

If you left the island without ever crafting you will be stuck with an empty recipe book and so, no way to get above lvl 1. But, there is a fix.

Go to the Temple of Life in North Qeynos. (Just past the zone in from Eldaar Grove.) There should be an NPC there who will grant you the starting recipe book and level you up to lvl 2 or 3... POOF!!!

From there, you should be able to craft a few things that will get you rolling. You will also be able to scribe the first book or two and get more recipes. And FWIW - he asked you for white tea... there is no white coffee...

White tea, yes. =D Dunno why I said coffee. I'll look into going to North Qeynos tonight when I get home. Thanks for your help (and patience!)!

I've looked around the Temple of Life, and no one seems to be interested in the tradeskill things. I've hailed every one of them, but they don't give anything but useless chit-chat. Got a specific name?

try hailing the guy in the tradeskill instance who sells fuel and things - I've heard that works for some people.
#11 Mar 02 2006 at 11:45 AM Rating: Good
Yes, evedently they've moved this guy and given his job to the merchant downstairs in the TS instance. Hope they gave him a suitable raise as well... those guys work real hard and never get a vacation!

TS Instance? Sorry I am a newbie here too and missed out on the isle tradeskills. So would I try hailing the guy upstairs in the commonwealth in the hovel?

Ok, I found the merchant who gave me "artisan essentials 3" and asked me to brew a 'white tea'.

I couldn't scribe it but then I went down stairs and hailed the downstairs merchant which got me to level 2 and started me on my crafiting way.

Sony really could have made this easier but I am glad I fianlly got it going.

Thanks everyone for their help!

OK, I have the same problem, no recipes to start and unable to scribe the first book (Artisans Ess 2)availible to buy. So, how do I get this started with no recipes?
#15 Mar 09 2006 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
Well, looks like I figured it out. I was trying to talk to the downstairs merchant in the TSkill after starting the quest with the upstairs merchant by double-clicking them instead of 'hail ' command. After doing this it made my artisan skill level 2 and I could read the first artisan book. I am now cooking like a Troll should.

Man i miss the old tin bar/tin spike leveling method...thanks blue for getting me straight on the changes

Maybe someone can help me. I have the quest to make the white tea but no recipe. I've hailed the guy and double clicked him. I've looked for the artisan book. Maybe I destoryed it? I've only got fish rolls and coffee and one other recipe.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Look around your home village and you'll find something that looks like a cellar door. Hail the guy next to it and he'll make you a member, then in you go.

It's marked on the in game map too Smiley: smile

Just a little something I found out the hard way yesterday x.x Inside the TS instance in Queen's Colony/Outpost of the Overlord, the guy that gives you your initial training is the wholesaler.

However, clicking on him simply brings up his buy menu. In order to get the initial tradeskill training and the recipes that go with it, you need to hail him, by either right-clicking him and choosing 'hail' from the menu that appears, or by targeting him and pressing 'h' (unless you rebound that key, of course). This confused me for a while, and it was definitely one of those "OMG I'm so stupid" moments when I finally figured it out

Anyway, have fun tradeskilling, I know I do! (and I would have even more fun if my POS router didn't crap out when I try to buy from the wholesaler ><)
