Buying/Selling QuestionFollow

I'm just curious if anyone has any basic info for a noob as far as buying and selling items goes.

How do I know an appropriate price to buy items/sell items for?

Searching the broker I notice a lot of items in my lower level range for what I consider to be rediculous prices based on the stats/quality of the item compared to the not-that-great stuff I am wearing.

I tried looking items up to compare to what others were selling similar/identical items for but there wasn't much to bump it against.

Any information anyone could provide would be appreciated.

If there is a web link or other spot this question has been answered I apologize for being redundant :)

Thanks!

There really is no solid answer to this problem...

I tend to do a couple things when I am going to sell drops on the broker. The first is to see what an NPC will give me for each item I plan to sell. (I do this so I know the minimum price I should list it for.)

Next, I go to my room and look up the items on the broker to see what other folks are selling the same item for. If the price is decent, I'll put mine up for sale. If the average price is stupid low, I'll just vendor sell the item(s) rather than waste time trying to make a few copper in profit!

One thing to remember is that not many folks are looking for common dropped gear until level 20+ since you tend to go through those levels so quick it's almost not worth upgrading anything!

As far as adept 1 spell drops go, most any spell of a given level or tier is worth about the same money. So a lvl 18 monk spell is worth roughly the same as a lvl 18 warden spell. And most tier 2 spells are worth about the same amount as other tier 2 spells. There are exceptions to this "rule" but it will get you started.

And finally, I notice that you're on Najena... If Tutan hasn't hit you up to join the guild and get free stuff yet, I'll let him know you're around... He's a one man recruiting center!!!

First thing you need to do is get a billboard on your wal, I beleive you get one when you first talk to the innkeeper, or atleast I did.

You then need some bags in your house vault, available by right clicking the door.

Put the items you want to sell in to the bags in your vault, then go to your bill board. It will allow you to sell from your inventory while you are in your house, or from your vault when you leave. On the right side is a button to compare/look up what that item is on broker for by other players. You will want to place the item at about the same price as everyone else.

All that also only applies for when offline auctions work, if they are down the only way to sell is off your inventory while you are in house. When off line selling is on, which it normally is, the system works well.

As far as high prices, if you feel the item isnt worth the price dont buy it. We have a player controlled economy, so you everyone sets the prices when they buy and sell.

I pretty much run the same as OBD on my selling tactics. You really need to make sure to check the vendor prices on stuff. In the last 2 weeks with the brokers being down and all I have seen alot of stuff going for less then it sells to the vendor. Unfortunatly the taxes make up for the difference so I just cant buy them and sell them for profit.

Those prices for lower tier drops and crafted gear (when you can find them) are indeed ridiculous. You're noticing something problematic in the EQ2 economy, but to be fair EQ2 is not alone in this. Pretty much only twinked alts can afford the prices most people want for lower tier gear. Crafters don't want to make the stuff because they generally don't have the raw materials on hand for lower tiers and it takes as much time to make that stuff as the highest tier gear. On top of that they get no experience, if they're still leveling.

Hardly anyone getting the drops and hardly anyone crafting them means supply is way lower than demand, so price goes up.

There may be relief on the way with the crafting revamp that will make everything a one-combine process. More people may start crafting and existing crafters won't mind doing one quick(er) combine to make lower level stuff. Another thing to consider for now is high level crafters might be willing to make you something if you provide the raws, or better yet the subs. I know I would.

When the no subs system goes into effect for everything I plan to make weapons for tier 3 on up and sell them for realistic prices. That will get my name out there for the up-and-coming newbies. Call it marketing :)

One other thing to keep in mind that is often overlooked is to keep your prices realistic for the Tier it is for. I always wonder what is in the head of folks who think selling Tier 2 items for more than 30 gp. Outside of exchange servers, no one is going to have that kind of coin.
