a minor rantFollow

I finally found something I wish they hadn't done!

For over a year now we've had home villages that were "mount free" zones. Personally, I never felt the need to ride through my home town perched upon my horse, and in fact, I enjoyed the fact that we all walked from inn to bank to NPC merchant to TS instance when we were at home.

All that changed recently when SOE changed the coding to allow "horses at home"! Navigating inside the bank has now become a chore due to the crowds of horses and carpets and also due to the increased lag derived from all the extra animated models to be drawn. (Horses in the banks was one of the little things that always bugged me in EQ1 as well!)

It's not like it's a game breaker for me or anything, I just wish thay hadn't given us this "upgrade". Or, (parish the thought), that players had enough courtesy to dismount before they entered the bank.

Yea between the server mergers and that lag has gotten terrible inside town zones.

Im down for the cause though, I don't have a mount at all (well besides my lvl 20 spell, but I don't use it since I got jboots).

Starcrest Commune has recently been added to the "rides-authorized" zones.

It does take away from the immersion a bit when you have to force your way through horses and carpets to find the banker, but I am usually just there to take care of business and leave. I do so much running around anyway, I'm glad to stay at a high speed.

I could just use a SOW totem instead...

It would be very courteous for people to dismount in town and especially in the bank. Next thing you know we will have horses and carpets in the trade skill zones. I try to be courteous and at least dismiss my pet. I don't need him in town and it hopefully decreases the lag for some.

Since the rug riders have increased in QH I have ended up in the drink more times then I care to remember due to the lag. I almost drowned one time because the lag was so bad I couldn't even get my head above water. I just recently moved to SQ because I couldn't stand the lag. Of course that now means I have to run farther for the bank, pay more in rent, and don't have access to a mender.

The idea behind allowing the mounts is probablly tied in with allowing the badie's into the goodi's towns and the goodie's into the badie's towns. It gives them a better chance of escaping the 70+ guards. Just my thought. Seems like the line should be drawn somewhere though.

Hey neighbor! We're the loud guild house at 9 Lucie Street (at the intersection with the tree) in South Qeynos. Just follow the BBQ smell.

Come and visit our happy little corner anytime, under the name of Squibb. Gifts of beer and chips required. :)

That's a very good observation and probably the root of it. I know if I was wrecking havoc in East Freeport and it got ugly, I'd want to make haste to the exit.

What about the rule about asking for rate ups?

So you get a rate up for your observation, but then get karma camped for the asking. Smiley: banghead
Not that karma camping you would be worth it.

It comes from being around so looong. Too many little babies cry about karma, and that was the way to annoy them best, not that you were crying, I can see humour once in a while.

Is there even a point to Karma any more. Its not like the numbers are specifically posted like they used to be. Granted I can go and look at my karma but no one else sees it do they?
#14 Mar 01 2006 at 10:05 PM Rating: Good
Anyone that can click your name and see your average. But karma still works as intended. We can rate people down, and sub-default them so we dont see their posts if we choose. The change was from all the people that cried if they droped .01 points. I can also book mark a post and be able to see the current post karma. You have a 3.28 on your last post.Smiley: wink

To be on topic, just so OBD doesnt rant about the hi-jacking. I never really noticed the mount change. I am bound right next to my inn room, and the bank where there was always a crowd to jump through.

Sorry pal... one rant per year is my limit... oh, well... ok, maybe more than one... but it will have to be a good one.
