It has been a long, long time for this adventurer. The last time I had an active account was about a month after Planes of Power for EQ. I told myself there was nothing left there for me, that it was time to see what other worlds had to offer. WoW, FFXI, CoH, M:O, SWG, Planetside all came and went without grabbing my attention the way EQ did. Now I'm back, starting up in Everquest II despite lingering doubts about everyone's favorite MMO company.

I'd like to ask some advice. I've been playing around with Fury, and in general having a pretty good time of it. Will a Fury be able to fill a good group support role late game, or will my talents be too focused on damage to play the part? Also, is the messer an important role in this game? My enchanter was my favorite character of all time in any game that I have ever played, and I get all tingly at the prospect of such a playstyle again. Then comes the question of server. I've seen a rather soft-spoken member of the forums mention Najena on occaision (/sarcasm), however the choice of Good or Evil is left off. Is this choice all that important? I assume with the advent of faction-based PvP, Good won't be grouping much with Evil.

Thanks for answering the noob questions.

Welcome back to the EQ world, Doole. I'll let OBD fill your questions about a Fury, as that is his speciality. I do know that you will always be considered a healer in the group, leaving the DPS to those that can dish it out with angst.

Mezzers are somewhat the same as EQ1 and are very important in high level zones and raids. There are also several important quests that need a mezzer to be successful. Other than that, I feel they are slightly DPS-underpowered while gaining mez ability. You will find it much more difficult (if not impossible) to quad-kite, however you will be able to take down tough mobs.

There are no good or evil servers, so it's a pick that is very flexible...as long as it's Najena. :) We were not picked to be either a server being mergered or receiving a merge, so that's a testament to our flourishing population. Guilds in many ranges, players in all zones.

I hope that wasn't too loud :)

Oh, I understand my place as healer. I'm looking for something more than a healbot in a healer, someone with a nice list of buffs to back up the healing capacity, and Fury seems to fit the role. Haven't looked into Templar at all yet, though that seems to be the more traditional "cleric."

As to the mezzer, it seems the Coercer is the spiritual successor of the Enchanter. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Yes, the Coercer is the evil version, Illusionist is the good version.

Welcome and welcome back to Norrath!

As Tut mentioned, I play a brace of druids, one a warden and the other a fury. Of the two I prefer playing the warden but the fury is still lots of fun, I just don't play him as much.

Between the two classes, furys get better buffs and put out a little higher level of damage. In exchange, wardens heal a little better.

Based on what you said, I think fury is the right choice for you. And no, you will never be so focused on damage that you won't be a viable healer.

I also regularly duo my warden with a fury and the two druids make a potent combo. We are fully able to heal each other, (depending on who is tanking), and since we can finish each other's HO's we are never at a loss for damage output!

Hope you make it to Najena... we can always use another druid!
