Best duo pair?Follow

#1 Jan 30 2006 at 11:35 PM Rating: Decent
Hi folks -

My friend and I are coming here from EQ, starting anew! (Tried WoW - didn't like it). Anyhow, that's irrelevant.

We would like to play a pair of characters that would work well as a duo, but aren't real sure what those might be. Clearly one would need to be a Priest class of some sort, the other is up in the air.

What are your opinions: what's the best duo out there?

thanks!

Everyone who duos will have an oppinion on which 2 classes serve best. Usually this will be the 2 classes in their duo!

Bottom line here is that most any 2 classes will do for a duo!

I have duoed with a DPS and a tank... no priest, (ranger/guardian) and done very well. no deaths and we gathered plenty of XP and swag!

But the best 2 man combo I have found to date is warden/ranger or fury/ranger.

The bonus of decent dps from the druid makes things move quickly and both fury and warden are strong enough healers to keep up with incoming damage while outputting some of his own!

I am also a big fan of the heal over time style of druids.

Well, as to your question about the best duo pair.... i guess it is all opinion, so I will give you my opinion on it. I took some time and looked at all of the classes. I wanted to find the best of each class in the game.
From what I saw, I decided that the templar was the best pure healer in the game. I put templar and inquisitor about the same, although I give templar a little bit of an edge because of some of the spells they get.
Now, when I was looking at tanks, there are many good tanks also. But, for pure tanking reasons I believe that guardians are the best. Yes berserkers can do more damage and go berserk, and yes paladins can ward or heal themselves to make more aggro. But, I think that guardians are the pure "brick wall" of the tanking class.
For this reason I two-box a templar and a guardian, and I have found it pretty effective.
If you two choose any healer and any tank, it should work out. You can tailor the characters to your playing style, which is what it is all about. You will have an advantage because you already have the group almost set. Just find one more DPS to trio with ... or find one more healer and three DPS and you can take on anything.

Good Luck,
Good Hunting,

To emphasize what the prior replier said, Yes any two classes can duo. I two box a templar and a rogue quite nice, and a templar and a conjuror. If you are thinking about a pure tank and healer, that is good, but switching it up and tanking with a pet or such might provide some excitement.

I suggest you try multiple toons first, and then decide what style of play you like. The characters are balanced, and watch out for a new PvP server coming out soemtimte this month, it should be interesting.

Salut

I prefer the Templar and Monk combo. The Guardian is the best tank in the game but I prefer the added DPS of the Monk over the Guardian. The Monks keep aggro very good also. I`ve never tried comboing 2 Conjurer`s, but that could be awesome. One tank pet and one DPS pet and 2 nuking Mages. That could be sweet.

I have to agree with you Daplane... warden/warden -or- fury/fury or even warden/fury are all potent combinations for duos. It's that "druid" thing!

One issue to be aware of with "same-class" duoing, you both use the same HO template. So you will not be able to get any duo-combo HO's as done with 2 separate classes.

That is a small consideration, though, since HO's shouldn't determine what you want to play. Play what's fun!

Just wanted to update folks: we went with a Fury/Conjuror pair. Not bad really, although I feel a bit extraneous. I pretty much don't have to do much of anything unless we're fighting heroics, orange mobs, or get adds for some reason. Or if he accidentally gets aggro. Maybe that will even out eventually but it's pretty nutty how strong the conjuror is! He can totally solo stuff that I don't think I could even look at without dying. ;-P

You'd be surprised what a fury can do on his own! The ability to self heal gives you a lot of wiggle room when it comes to mob selection. In fact, I tend to try mobs with my warden that I would never attempt with my ranger!

And btw - since the duo can... do take on more oranges and heroics! The XP and the loot tables are better!

Okay, know I'm responding to a very old post, yes I'm new at this (both EQ2 and posting to this forum), and my char is only low 20s... all that said, I think my playing partner and I have stumbled onto a pretty incredible duo, mystic and monk. The monk specializes in avoiding damage with very respectible dps, while the mystic wards and heals. With wards completely negating damage to a specific amount (and having two... group and individual) we are able to take on a lot of mobs, with no crowd control to speak of, where my primary job is to ward him and let him know when a mob gets mad at me. Our toughest challenge has been very strong single mob/bosses (3 or 4 levels above us, heroic or whatever) who hit so hard my ward is gone immediately... but I think I'm still figuring stuff out, so I'm not eliminating the possiblity we can handle those eventually.

One concern I have, is that the effectiveness of my wards will keep up as we level, and encounter stronger mobs who hit harder. We'll see.

Anyway, I was hoping someone would have commented on this particular duo, since it seems to work so well. Maybe I'll get some responses to this. Or not.

Thanks.

I can do the fastest grinding with a fury + wizard. also to mention furies have a really nice root with only 5% chance to break. So ^^^ names are very easy if the fury is healing + spamming root.

they all bring different things to the table though, duo sets.

I don't think wardens get pets?? But I think you can get items which allow you to charm creatures so you can use them as pets???

I'm a Warden and my BF is a Swashie. We do great in Duo's. He has the DPS and I keep us alive. But one thing is that Wardens do have powerful blasting spells, so I have to watch that I don't outdue in some things so I don't get the aggro. And to one post warden's don't have pets, but we do get to charm animals and use them like a conjurer would. Depends on your AA skill on charm animals. Some animals can be charmed for up to 30 mins. Warden's do get a spell where we have a pack of wolves which help us fight, but they are a temp help during a battle. :)

Oh, I know this is an old thread, but I had to put in my 2 coppers. :)

A friend of mine and I duo regularly together. It almost doesn't seem what we play together, we do well. However, for us it seems to work best when I play a Fury/Warden, and he plays a DPS character. The combination of healing, attacking, and damage spells for the druids (along with fairly decent armor) - and the high damage and decent armor of his scouts - makes us a formidable pair. I also always follow his lead and let him decide what we do; he's acting as tank, so if it's his decision to stay and fight or his decision to run, I listen to him. It doesn't hurt that he can evac us if things get really hard, but we've managed orange heroics on occasion.

But it's a player thing. I once ran a troubador with his coercer and it worked fine. We just play well together. I tried playing with another friend that I know IRL, he played a necro and it was just terrible. In fact, when the three of us worked together we were actually able to do LESS than my other friend and I alone.

I would say it really depends on the players, so if you find a good player, you'll always do pretty well.
