Me and my wife have been playing MMO's since EQ first arrived and after leaving it a couple of years ago and aafter trying and getting bored with a few other games we are thinking of trying out EQ2. I was wondering about a few things though.

1) Is there a lot of content in the game for duo's as we have young children and grouping with others is out of the question a lot of the time.

2)How would it run on my wifes PC, AMd 2600XP, 512Ram , Ati 9600pro.

3) Tradeskilling.. is it really as good as it sounds?, I've read up on the basics of it and been really impressed from the little I know.

Any help with these few queries is much appreciatted. :)

Regards.

Duoing works well in eq2, especially if you have class that compliment each other like a fighter/healer combo they work out nice.

I am not much of a computer expert, but I would say the ram is at the minimum right now, I would get another 512 for it. I dont know squat for the rest.

Thanks for the response, Upgrading her comp at the moment isn't really an option unfortunately although she wouldn't mind playing with most options between a minimum and average setting as long as the gameplay is smooth enough.

As long as it's playable enough for her she would stick with it until we get round to upgrading her comp.

My old computer had 512 and it wasnt bad out in the wild. It was the cities that became hard to move around in, I had a lot of lag in qeynos harbor and south qeynos. It was still playable.

Could I ask which graphics card you were using on your old comp ?

It has been a while since my old PC blew, I think it was an ati 9800, but I need to check with the friend I gave it to to be sure.

You'll need at least 1GB of RAM to be able to play the game with any sensible good graphics. I have 760MB and have to play on "Extreme Performance" - the lowest setting. Your video card will need at least 128MB and have the shading feature required by the minimum specs.

I certainly know about baby-agro, I get it all the time. Not to mention wife-cat-dinner-work-store-homework-bathtime-readmeastory agro.

You will have content that the two of you can tackle. Like Dirges said, if one of of you is a healer, you'll be able to tackle even bigger fish. But you would be surprised how forgiving may people are in the group. Seems most folks get agro of some kind.

Tradeskilling can be tedious, as you will stay in a indoor crafting area and move from table to table making combines. However, it is rewarding that you can create things for yourself and even items you can sell.

You won't be making large cash at the start, that will take some time. If you choose sage and have a Mage character, you can make your own spell upgrades. If you are a Fighter and choose to be a armorer, you can make your own armor.

Player-made gear is about the best, except for some occasional very special loot drops.

If you like small guilds in a child-friendly environment with no pressure, come to Najena and look up Foundation. We are all families with kids and fully understand the meaning of, "Got to go, baby-agro!"

Look me up, I can help you get started. :)

Cheers for the responses guys, by the looks of things I think it will be only me playing EQ2 for a month or so then till we get some more memory or a better graphics card for her machine.

Yup, the game is very solo friendly, thus duo friendly as well. I think a duo made up of a Fury and a Berzerker would be able to do just about any MoB short of red con ^^^ heroics, orange nameds and of course Epics.

As you can see from my Signature, I'm biased, but I think tradeskills in this game are great. If one of you is a scout, I would suggest leveling up a Jeweler, who can make scout combat arts and 7 or 8 slots of gear for any class. Don't just consider making things for yourself though, you can make some decent coin in addition to what you make adventuring as as most tradeskill classes, so do what interests you.
