Server Downtime daily at 10am EST?Follow

#1 Jan 07 2006 at 10:11 AM Rating: Decent
Is it posted somewhere that the servers are going to be going down EVERYDAY at 10amest? They just drop right outta the blue at 10amest and are down for 30 min to an hour? I can't find anything on official forums related to these outages. Anyone have some insight? Thanks in advance.

It no longer happens EVERY day... just whenever thay have a patch or an update to push to correct a problem. This usually does work out to "every day" for about a week following each live update. And yes, it normally happens at 10AM Eastern... which translates to 7AM Pacific (location of the server farms is San Diego, Ca.)

But, this morning's downtime was listed as server maintenence and not a patch so it could have been for anything...

Over the Christmas Holidays (starting a few days after LU18), there was a stretch of about ten days running where they never brought the servers down once!

As far as a published schedule, if you check THIS page, on the right hand side - near the top you will see a box of announcments. It usually lists the next schedueled downtime.

Also they usually give you a 1 hour count down. So you don't have to worry about it just dropping out of no where.

They don't always give a countdown. It happened a few times and the sony forums blew up about it. People crafting with rares and the servers came down in the middle of it. I was crafting two of the days but thankfully with just ash lumber.

Seems to me they are taking them down for moronic reasons. Few days ago they did it to take canine saliva out of the tradeskill uses it had. Nothing game breaking to take down live servers every day. No idea why they are doing it.

Fair enough, but I do agree that they DON'T give any notice on most of these morning updates. I'd say once during a specific SCHEDULED downtime i was given notice but 3 other times i went LD, as did my friends and our server was locked for a good 30min..

I have always gotten notice, (when I have been playing before a shutdown). They come at 1 hour before, half hour before, 15 minutes before, then every 5 minutes, and always begin with "attention citizens of Norrath...". In addition, there is a "bell" sound that signals the server wide notification message. Once you hear that bell and identify it with the server messages, like Pavlov's dogs, you will be forever trained!

It is possible that you didn't see the warning notification messages go by since if you were in group and fighting at the time they would have scrolled by quickly. Try listening for the bell sound next time you're on between 6 & 7AM.

There is definately at least 2 times last week where they didnt give notice about bringing the servers down. Good thing I wasnt being careless with my alt in a pack of orange mobs ! I'm always harvesting for that 1 hour or so before the servers go down, that gives me the ressources to craft for a little while after that, but twice last week ive dropped LD in feerott for no reason, but it was exactly at the time of the 'daily' patch.

Other than that, Ive always had the message with the kind of bell sound. Maybe a bug or just careless workers.
