Wizard DPS question.Follow

#1 Jan 05 2006 at 3:22 AM Rating: Decent
I have a 51 almost 52 Wizard. And I'm a little confused and annoyed. Today I was ACTUALLY KICKED from a group because some guy said I wasn't doing enough dps according to a parser from www.eqpixie.com.

Now I'm wondering if this is just a fluke or is there something majorly wrong with the way I play my char. (If I wasn't doing enough dps, this is the first I've heard of it no one has ever complained before)

What is the avg dps for a wizard at level 51? That's assuming that all spells are at least adept 1 quality. (Ice Comet is Adept 3 if you were wondering) The other wizard in the group was doing 4000-8000dps.

The guy said that I was in the 300 (THREE HUNDRED) range, which sounds ridiculous because my Ice Comet does around 4200+ dmg and I usually cast at least one of those during a fight (depending on how fast the mob drops). I also stole aggro on purpose just to see what the supposed reading was.

Has anyone used this parser from eqpixie.com? How is is dps measured? It was the parser reading my dps correctly or did it get truncated and thus read low? Or am I making a big deal of nothing and this was just some guy with something in his butt for me?

Curious...

Anyone that runs a group through a parser is in way too deep. And if you don't like parser-controlled groups, then it was not for you in the first place.

I assume you are starting with your DoT's and finishing with your DD's. But frankly, I can't see how someone can do FOUR THOUSAND damage PER SECOND. In a 30 second fight, that person would do 120,000 damage all by themself. DPS in the several hundreds is more realistic, unless I've completely missed the boat.

Maybe he took a snapshot of a smaller period of time, when you were casting a small spell, and teh other Wiz cast Ice Commet?

Download and install the parser on your own, then do some test runs to verify what you're putting out.

I'm pretty sure add-ons lie that have a certain range radius, so if you were outside of his range to pick your spells up, you would have a much lower DPS. note that i said think...i've never actually used them, but in WoW thats how it was, and mages/priests always had lower DPS than actual because they were too far from the person who had the DPS meter.
