I just don't get it...Follow

#1 Jan 04 2006 at 12:41 AM Rating: Good
Whenever I have a little downtime, I tend to shop the broker... I like to see what other folks are charging for the things I don't need as well as looking at what the things I want are going to cost me!

I even enjoy seeing the "silly" prices... you know, like 1.5 plat for a carbonite cluster! Or 3 plat for a holiday musicbox... (what's up with that anyway? Anyone can get them... and for free!)

Anyway, what I don't get is this...

I keep seeing people with adept I spells and advanced recipe books listed on the broker for less than an NPC will give them... sometimes a lot less! For example, I saw a T4 spel the other night for 19s! What is the deal here? Are these folks too lazy to check an NPC merchant to see what those spells and recipes are actually worth?

OK, as a public service, I'm gonna post the going rate on adepts and advanced books by tier... since they are all worth the same to an NPC, it's kinda simple to do... And now there is NO excuse for throwing money away...

adept I spells:
T2 (lvl 10 - 19) unsure but it can't be much!!!
T3 (lvl 20 - 29) 4s 17c
T4 (lvl 30 - 39) 66s 67c
T5 (lvl 40 - 49) 2g 66s 67c
T6 (lvl 50 - 59) unknown - I haven't gotten there yet!

advanced recipe books:
T2 (lvl 10 - 19) unsure but it can't be much!!!
T3 (lvl 20 - 29) about 4s (I didn't have one handy!)
T4 (lvl 30 - 39) 53s 33c
T5 (lvl 40 - 49) 2g 13s 33c
T6 (lvl 50 - 59) unknown - I haven't gotten there yet!

No thanks are nessessary... consider it a deposit to my Kharma account for the coming week!

Sadly I think some folks are just too lazy to check; I've always found that odd too. Some of the NPC prices for various items are not too bad and are above any price you'd get from another player.

Specially if you sell in your crafting house. Smiley: smile

They are lazy indeed.

What also gets me is a person that will sell an Apprentice II spell for 30-70s, when it costs only a few silver from the merchant.

And those 1.5p clusters? Some knucklehead is hoping someone will accidentely buy it.

By the way, never pay more than 5pp for a Tier 5/6 master spell. I did some searching for a master version of my pet...saw it selling for 37pp. Now considering it's maybe a 15% improvement from Adept III, doesn't justify a 600% increase in cost.

I think most master 1 spells are overpriced. Something I did notice recently with them though is they are less likely to be resisted. But still I see people trying to get over 1pp for tier 2 and tier 3 masters. I have bought a couple of tier 3 masters that are reasonably priced, but I can't see any reason to buy a master 1 between lvl 3 and 20 due to how fast you outgrow the spells.

I think sometimes people put them on broker so that they can try and help other players. I used to do that until I found the little greedy people who buy and resell at a higher price.

I have noticed lately people have been buying and reselling with the carbonite clusters alot lately. One minute you will see stacks and stacks for 45ish copper then abit later you see 1 person wanting 5 silver each with about 10 stacks. I despise people like that.

To be honest, I hardly ever check what an item sells to the merchant for. I compare to what similar items are selling for and do about the same as the lowest amount ir a bit less. If it doesnt sell I will check what the prices on auction are at again and see if it is better to sell to a merchant then.

Now, I know this sounds crazy, but sometimes I'll put low lvl adepts and lower end gear on the broker for really cheap KNOWINGLY. Why? To hel pout the low end players. When you see tier 1 and 2 Adepts on the broker for 20+ gold, it's cool to put yours up for a few silver. Or to put up a crappy drop for a few silver so a noob can buy it. I guess I'm just not a greedy person, and I'm happy to give lower $$$ players a sweet deal. Usually, it's stuff I couldn't sell at a normal price anyway. So instead of selling it to a merchant, I'll just put it up, so it doesn't get wasted.

Noe master spells and rares, that's a different story...

This is touching on something that has been peeving me for a while. It seems the concept of diminishing returns is lost on some folks. They're the ones who think if the item isn't the best in the game, then it "sucks". The typical example is the crafted rare items vs fabled drops. Getting yourself fully equipped with cobalt armor you may only be 10% worse overall than with all fabled items. A difference, mind you, that would be barely noticable in playing. But some people would rather die than equip themselves with so called 'junk' because it's not the best. I've even seen people complaining that T6 rare crafted was better than T5 fabled... They say the crafted stuff should be nerfed below T5 fabled so they don't have to buy it to stay on top until they get their T6 fabled - and to hell with the crafters.

Those people who have to have the best, and are willing and able to pay ridiculous prices for it, are the ones who are driving those exhorbitant prices on rares.

Price gougers and the people looking to trick others into paying way too much are another story. It's obvious they're just greedy leeches.
