Evil Dragons and Player Versus Player Combat Unveiled For EverQuest II

SAN DIEGO, CA – January 4, 2006 – Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a global leader in the online games industry, today announced that the second expansion for EverQuest® II, entitled Kingdom of Sky™, is schedule to be available at retail and for download on Feb. 21. The retail SKU of Kingdom of Sky a recommended price of $29.99 and will contain the full version of the base EverQuest II game, the new expansion and a special in-game item. The digital version will contain the new expansion for $26.99.

“Kingdom of Sky offers something for all of our EverQuest II players,” said Laura Naviaux, senior brand marketing manager, Sony Online Entertainment. “For the seasoned EQII player, Kingdom of Sky increases the amount of high level content in a world filled with intrigue and the potential destruction of Norrath by the evil dragon lords. The second expansion pack brings the excitement of dragon battles and is timed to coincide with the newly-added Player vs. Player (PvP) action.”

An entirely new form of advancement introduces a structured Achievement system of skills and abilities to further specialize and individualize your character, while level caps for characters, artisans and guilds are all increased. Ten new adventure zones, from lush jungles to temples of unimaginable splendor, 25 new enemies and troves full of new treasures all open up fresh game play and visual experiences within the online world of EverQuest II.

Player versus Player combat will “go live” in EverQuest II near the time of the launch of Kingdom of Sky, a highly anticipated addition to the game that will allow players to fight each other. PvP will be a part of the regular updates that take place within the game world, and will be available to all EQII players for no additional cost. PvP will feature good versus evil combat, pitting citizens of the two rival cities of Qeynos and Freeport against each other. Players will earn items, titles, fame and experience while engaged in combat with other online gamers around the globe. Combat will happen in the wild or within the gates of your opponent’s city. PvP will be activated on new servers so all players will be able to compete from the ground up.

Now if they would just make avians as a playable race?

Pretty interesting. The PvP doesn't interest me but I know the "kids" have been clamoring for it so it should be well received!

The AA system will probably meet with mixed reviews. I have heard some players say thay hate the idea and that it will ruin the game. And others who say they love the idea and that in their minds, it is the only thing that will "save" EQ2.

Personally, I think it will add yet another demension to the game for those that are either bored with playing or those who feel the need/desire to make their characters even more unique.

The new zones will be interesting, I'm sure and the increased level caps will be welcome, even though I have yet to max a character out in either adventuring or crafting... I'm a casual player but that won't keep me from still trying to catch up!

I still feel its coming out too soon. I was also hoping to see the Faydark area instead. I never liked Plane of Sky in eq1 (thought it was tedious and annoying personally). I also figure content wise it will be for the lvl 55 to 70. Far as AA's go Im indifferent to them. I just wish SOE would think about the casual people more though. Seems like you get a handful of hardcore people who do nothing but sleep and play eq2 and thats all SOE wants to cater to. Just because a few people max their level out in 1 month doesn't mean everybody can. Their is still plenty of players who can't even use DOF due to the level requirements. I MIGHt be starting to get into DOF when this comes out if im lucky.

Seems to me they want a chunk of WoW's 5 million customers, hence the new servers with PvP. I just hope they keep it off the regular servers Smiley: bah

Seems like too soon after DoF to me but I guess they want to hold onto the level 60's who are starting to get bored Smiley: rolleyes

WAAAAY to soon after DoF. Stuff like this is what killed EQ2 IMO. Not enough work on gameplay and to much work and adding new stuff.

I hope this version of AA's are really, literally ALTERNATE advancements and not "If you don't have the correct 200 AA's you're gimped." They should follow a branching tree and let you add, say, a little DPS or healing power, but not both, according to your desires. They should give your character flavor and distinction but not cripple you if you don't pick the right ones. Or you can use them to become a Fearless Undead/Gnoll/Orc Hunter and get major tools for killing your one chosen monster type. Then people would seek you out whenthey had to kill one of your arch-enemy types.

I would like to see a big new multi-zone continent that takes players from level 10 or 20 to whatever. There need to be more options for getting from one tier to the next than, for example, Qeynos - Antonica - TS - EL or Zek. Right now the only place to get from 50 - 60 is DoF. I assume the new expansion will be the only place to get from 60 - 70. Kind of kills replay value for alts and such.

30 new collections, 30 new house items (does that incluse crafted?) and 25 new monsters... Hmm... Seems like they were reaching a bit for bullet points. :)

I don't see how SOE plans to get WOW players to come over with expansions you can't enjoy until your high level. Now if they made them with new content from say 20+ then yes maybe soem people would want to try it. But I know if I was playing wow with my lvl 60 whatever I wouldn't want to try eq2 because of a expansion that I know will take me months to be able to enjoy due to level restrictions.

Sounds like they're starting up new PvP servers. That will attract some people away from WoW Smiley: smile

I have never played wow, but with the set up EQ2 has, I dont see how PvP can be that good. The game play is a bit slow for PvP to me. But that could be me, I dont see pvp as an all important function of a RPG.

I might even clear one of my character slots to roll up a PvP toon.

The line for 13 year old gankers forms to the left. One line please! :)

I understand a PvP fight between two cleric types can take forever because their damage output can't get ahead of their self-healing. Zzzzzzzzzz.......

They do say they can make spells and skills work differently in PvP than they do in PvE, so they don't effect PvE when they balance the game for PvP. I can see giving players a lot more damage potential when they PvP to make fights go faster.

I'm really not interested in PvP anyway. I play WoW a little, but I'm on a regular server. The ganking and corpse camping that goes on there is ridiculous.

Just my 2 cents on all this. I personaly think that the expansion isnt to early at all from what im told its been 5 months since DoF has come out and well 5 months is a long time and the pvp would be a nice touch. Iv played many games in my years and i gave wow a try recently and the pvp is fun, it gives ya a way to show your power and that your better then that person.

But im also glad they are bringing it to new servers and not my current server. that would have some problems so its nice that if you want to pvp you have to start over to a degree. it would be intresting to see how areas like TS is affected because your so easyly able to go from the good side to the bad side. Makes me wonder if the docks will become a big battle grounds area. hehe that could be fun comeing up the docks with you and like 11 friends and trying to take over the docks like a king of the hills type of thing.

One thing im hopeing with this expansion that they do is make sure they put some good content into it. They should try and make the new areas really massive or at least one or 2 massive areas and then the rest could be smaller but not much. bigger is better ^^. Gives ya something explore and see. Mabey im alone on that thou i dont know, but i like big areas where the land scape changes as i travle acrost it and truly enlarges the game.

The AA's that everyone is talking about i cant say i know much about so to me another way to make a toon diffrent would be nice and i cant see it makeing it like its a must for any toon when partying because i dont think they would over power some things and underpower some other things that you can obtain from a AA.

Now iv also herd a lot of compling about people saying how they are up set that all there hard work that they just did to get the items they got has gone to waist. Well i personaly feel like this on that subject. If the items you just got where the best of the best and they put out something new in the game and expaned things wouldnt you think that would mean newer better things? Or would you rather have the best items and then every time they make a new expansion your still the top of the best with your items and never getting to look forward to something new?

just kinda seams silly not to think that new better items would come out eventualy and your items would be come not the best any more. Its kinda like being a lvl 30 toon and getting everything maxed out. best of the best items and then you lvl up to 31. Who would have though there would be better items for ya as you lvl up ^^ its a reward for your hard work at lvling so to speak.

Over all i just feel that as long as they make this expansion come out with everything they promised i wont be up set with them on this one. I just hope they dont do another DoF here and put something out that really wasnt finished..

agine just my 2 cents on this new expansion pack ^^

Well as far as new items making you not the best anymore that is kinda non expansion related. Every 10 levels you have items that need to be upgraded, and thanks to attuneing you lose big. Like at lvl 20 I paid 60 gold for a imbued t2 rare 1h sword. Now I am lvl 30 and I was offered 20 silver for this sword from a vendor. LEts see I am losing 59 gold 80 silver!!! Once again I will just shout I HATE ATTUNEING!!!! I mean come on its crazy how much you lose on a rare piece of equipment.

Anyways back on topic I could care less about PVP. I don't mind as long as its not forced on me, but eq1 turned me away from PVP forever! Nothing but a bunch of 12 year olds finding a player about 3 levels lower then them and attacking them while they are half dead from fighting a mob...yea that really proves how great you are. And I really had alot of fun with that one server where lvl 65's could attack a lvl 6. I had to actually do a /quit because some jerk was camping my bind spot constantly killing my newbie equiped lvl 6 druid. This player was a lvl 65 beastlord. And of course he was talking trash the whole time. I don't want to have to worry about every time I go AFK getting PKed by some idiot, nor do I want to have to travel in a group every time I leave a non pvp area. I also don't want my questing, exping, harvesting interrupted by somebody trying to pk me.

I guess eq2 will be slightly different. At least with eq2 every class is reasonably equal unlike eq1. I mean lets face in it eq1 if a lvl 10 necro attacks a lvl 8 warrior who is going to win?? Necro gets a snare off and its all over for the warrior. Only chance the warrior would have is if he/she was a super twink. I hear at higher levels that all changes with high end resist gear, but still its never a fair fight.

I also like the large open outdoor zones, underground mazey dungeons can get old real fast.

If you really think about it, its perfect for PvP. However, its Team-based PvP. Qeynos v Freeport. Kinda the way many thought it should have been from the beginning. So obviously Qeynos and Freeport and safe areas. and now that you don't have to retrieve anything from the point of death there's no corpse camping.

From what I have read, its not going to pay higher level ppl from killing low level toons. In fact, I thought I read where they would lose something ( can't remember what) if they kill toon too low for them

The story works for PVP, pretty close to what wow has really. I ment gameplay would be annoying for pvp. My PvP experience comes from CoH/V. It is fast, but requires strategy. Too me EQ2's game play would be too slow for small fights, maybe guild feuds it would be better.

You've just described the PVP servers on WoW. Even the roleplaying PVP WoW servers are like this, just awful. About three quarters of the players on the PVP WoW servers are kids who can't even type properly, and love to corpse camp. I hope that EQ2 will keep the PVP servers seperate from the older servers, unless you want your enjoyable game play to go to hell in a handbasket.
