I know that wisdom affects healing, but I am under the impression that the mystic also melees and casts dmg spells...I'm currently leaning toward a human because I would theoretically perform each task equally because of thier balanced stats...I would appreciate any advice b/c I dont really know how profoundly each stat would affect a Mystic, plus picking a human would be boring.
The good news is that any race can be any class. There may be a slight initial benefit from picking a certain race, but over time your gear will determine how much WIS you have.
I picked an Erudite for a high starting INT which was only about 4 or 5 over the next best race. But now my INT is 280-buffed - all from the effects of my armor, weapons (staff with a +25 INT), and spells.
When you gain levels and go to upgrade your armor, you should search for items that give you a WIS bonus. Additionally, having a high INT helps with your spell damage.
Except for Epic-quested, the best armor to get is player-made. There are many armorers and weaponsmiths that make quality gear that is affordable. And since you will need to get new gear every 8-10 levels, you will get better gear with better stat boosts. If you are in a guild with a dedicated armorer and weaponsmith, even better.
Bottom line is play a race that you will enjoy, as initial stats are not important in the long run.
Believe it or not, Humans are actually a seldom seen race, as everyone must think they are boring. :)
