Searching for the magical mmorpgFollow

Hi, I left Eq about 15 months ago and have been searching for a substitute. I have done guild wars for a month, shadowbane for a few days, eve for 2 months, wow for 4 months and doac for a few hours. Each one of those games were alright in some ways but what they all had missing was the magical 'it'. Eq had 'it' and now I am trying the eq trial scenario (trial of the isle) to see if that is a substitute. I could go back to eq but I feel that it would be a step backwards and also it woud be expensive because I do not have the cd's anymore. I have a few questions concerning eq2, if they have been asked before I apologise.

1 Does it have a harder leveling curve than wow? I got to 60 within 6 weeks where in eq it took me 9 months to het to 65. I find that the eq approach was better.

2 Do people who played eq find that it has the same 'feel' as the original?

3 Is there any area's like pok or lagforge that suck in peak playing times?

4 Is there any eu servers or what are the most popular servers in general?

5 The newer servers on wow where full of immature idiots who used the general channal for flaming each other and other people. Is the eq2 population more considerate/mature?

6 I work sporadic hours and I love warriors, can you easily solo in this game. In eq I soloed most of the time and at times it was really hard, is it easier in eq2?

Thanks for your patiance and time. Be seeing you soon.

Harder yes but not hard by any means. EQ2 has been designed and further tailored to appeal to the casual gamer. Hard-core power-gamers will probably get bored with the game sooner... but then they get bored with every game sooner!

No, (at least I didn't). It shares the same world and mythology but it is a different game. This is not to say that it doesn't have a good feel... in fact, I like it even more that the original, but it does feel different.

No. There is no central gathering spot. PoK no longer exists and the Nexus is gone, (the bastages blew up the moon 500 years ago!) Some city areas tend to be more populous, (like Qeynos Harbor), and so have higher lag but over all the game runs pretty smooth. (Note: a good vid card and lots of ram will smooth things out for you a lot.)

There are some EU servers and the 2 role playing preferred servers are always jumping. In addition, there are many other nice places to play. (I'm sure everyone will chime in here with he name of their server as a good place to play!)

Substantially. We do get some children but by and large the folks you will encounter are adults and act that way.

One of the nice things about a balanced game is that any class can solo... and solo effectively. The 4 different archtypes all achieve the goal in their own unique way but anyone can survive on their own.

I have heard alot of people talk about that magical feeling they got when they played Everquest 1. I honestly don't think there is any other MMORPG games that will offer that feeling to anybody. Eq was the first of its kind and therefore it was new to everybody. Even in a new MMORPG alot of the elements are very similar. I mean you kill still, you gain exp, level up, buy better armor/weapons, etc etc.

I think anytime a new game genre comes out it gives people that "Magical" feel. Anybody remember the first time they played Wolfenstein 3D, or Mario 64? I have played tons of FPS since wolf3d and none has had the magic that wolf3d had.

Its natural to level more quickly when your not spending 10 minutes to med up, or 2and 3 hours per day just LFG like in eq1. That is the main reason I have quit playing eq1. I would jsut assume the uber hardcore people stay away from eq2. It seems like SOE will listen to what 1 hardcore uber raider's thoughts over 10 casual players ideas. IMO the Hardcore people ruined eq1.

You have more exp in EQ1 than i do but there have been a few changes. Server megeres helped guilds and helped with the LFG for hours. (not eliminated but helped) the real news is about your missig disk. Jan 11th EQ will sell Titainium all 10 Expansions to date for $19.99 in retail stores.

For what it is worth i am on this forum because I am looking at playing EQ2 also. That said I am not trying to talk you into coming back to EQ just a little info that may help someone who knows what it was like back then.
