SOGA is a set of character models developed for the Asian market and now available to us as well. Some folks like them more than the Euro models and others like them less.

There are examples of what the different SOGA model races look like on the SOE website. You can choose to look at individual races in either set but you can't choose "both" versions for any race... it's one way or ta other...

The one shot option refers only to creation... you can only choose the way a character looks one time - kind of like the original character creation screens... You can, however, switch back and forth between the models you view any time you like.

Blue, you can mix and match SOGA and standard models for different races? I thought it was all or nothing, one way or the other.

Everyone can set their characters' SOGA appearance so they look the way they want to the people who are using SOGA models, whether they're using them themselves or not. If you haven't done so I would suggest it because my SOGA appearance was nothing like my standard, and there were options to make it much closer than it was.

At the moment you can switch back and forth and customize your SOGA appearance whenever you want, but I think the next live update is going to lock it down, give you your last chance to set it.

Yes Lydiaele, when you choose SOGA, there is a list of check boxes (including "all"). You can select the race(s) you want to view in SOGA and leave the ones you don't want unchecked.

Does one or the other slow you down more? The big difference that I see is the faces of sogo are much better with better shading and the body is a little more defined, but the hair on swogo is not nearly as nice and you cannot accesorize ( gnome glasses one thing). Not all races have sogo models ( none for troll).

No, it's strictly for appearance.

An appearance, mind you, that didn't go well. I tried the SOGA model, but my head looked like it got hit with voodoo shrinkage, and there was too much junk in my Erudite trunk.

editted for spellingorz

I find the SOGA models dorky looking. That's the best word I can think of to describe them. I don't think they are all correct either. At least the female versions aren't. When I select braid for my toons hair style it comes out straight and un-braided. Also I think the hair highlights don't work at all.

And when they run they look like...well, dorks. I really tried to give the SOGA a chance thinking I would get used to them but I didn't and ended up turning them all off.

The only thing about the Soga models, is that players using the trial version of EQ2 can't access them. So if you want to see the new models, you have to have a full copy of EQ2, not Trial of the Isle.

Personally though, from the few screenshots i've seen people post on the main EQ2 boards, many of the Soga models look neat, and should appeal to the anime type crowd more.
