Most wanted class for grouping?Follow

#1 Dec 13 2005 at 6:48 PM Rating: Decent
I quit WoW a few months ago and have been thinking about starting EQ2. In WoW there was a few classes that were very difficult to find a group while a few other classes got bombarded with whispers asking to be grouped with. In WoW I played a heal-bot type class and was always in demand for groups. I enjoy playing the role of healer but are they as important in EQ2 as they are in WoW? And overall what in the most in-demand class? The class that when starting a group you see one run by and the whole group says "grab him/her."

I would have to say that Healers and Fighters are 'nessasary' (almost) to have, but you will then again you will have little DPS and wont kill much wihtout mages and scouts

The game is setup so that you don'r have the problems you have in other games where your group MUST have a one class over another. I have been in groups with all caster types and we did fine with out a healer. And I have been in groups where it was all melee with no healers, with maybe a little down time
So any type or make of groups are fine :)

If your group plans on facing any heroic ^^ or tougher mobs, you will definately need a healer.

Here's the basic class breakdown:
Fighter: tank with low DPS
Scout: medium armor with high DPS
Mage: weak armor with highest DPS
Priest: healer

Within each of these classes are archtypes that add variations to abilities. For example, in the Scout class, one could become a Ranger (high DPS with a bow) or a Troubador (musical self and party buffs).

I've seen many announcements like, "Group needs tank!", or, "Group has 2 spots left, DPS prefered!" And the ever popular, "Group needs healer!"

Any class can be in high demand, depending on how a group is put together, but healers are normally in highest demand. Keep in mind that there is usually only 1 healer needed per group, so if there are many healers on, you may not be needed.

Good news is that there is a ton of solo mobs to hunt. :)

You can group without a healer, but if want to push the limits because you're grinding experience or you like the challenge, a healer will let you take on tougher opponents more often. A healer and a good tank to hold aggro let you go even further.

For most fights, any healer class can keep the group alive, and certain classes have advantages in different situations. That makes for more flexibility and eliminates the "must have" class syndrome.

Templars do best when you have a strong tank, your group is melee heavy and your fights last longer than a few seconds each. That means fighting ^^^ heroics and heroic groups, white to orange. In easier (i.e. most - quest groups, overland groups and outgrown dungeon runs) situations your extra healing and CC capabilities are wasted and other healer classes will bring more to the group in the way of added DPS and utility. Templars also have a hard time soloing efficiently because we have the lowest DSP in the game and we get interrupted a lot when we're standing there getting hit in our heavy armor. Unless you have a good set group or a big guild who can get you into fighting hard content any other healing class is probably better, at least at the moment. I'm hoping that changes.

I was venting a little there... :P I'm a slightly unhappy Templar.

Having 2 healers in your group makes you well-nigh invincible, and you can go after even red con enemies and rake in crazy experience.

Just like eq1 you can't ever find a healer. Healer is probably the class that can walk into a group the quickest. Next up would be a tank class. DPS is required but there is always more then enough DPS lfg.

I see people constantly begging for a healer in the LFG channels though.

however, unlike eq1,a healer isn't required for standard xp grouping and such. Healers are only required for raids and such. Don't get me wrong i like to have a healer in my group but they aren't a vital component to a good group like in some games. Pretty much any character class can find a group without a problem.

If you just want to fight solo mobs or what few ^^ heroic mobs are left in the game you cna get by without a healer. But thanks to SOE converting so many mobs from ^^ to ^^^ you just about have to have a healer. These ^^^ mobs hit for insane damage for their level.
