I'm just starting EQ2 and I have a couple questions, thanks in advance if you answer them.
1)Which races are the best if I want to play a fury? (sorry i'm just starting EQII)
2)Do furies just focus on spells or can they melee 1/2 decently also? I've looked at several forum posts and it sounds like they have damage sheilds, HoTs, DoTs, and I thought I saw something about them meleeing. So can they melee and do some sort of damage?

1) Any race can be any class. But a race with high wisdom would be the best. High elves, dark elves and dwarves to name a few.
All healers can melee or sorts, they just won't be as good as Scouts or Fighters.
One big advantage for Clerics is that they can wear plate armor. The other Priests are limited to medium armor.

In everquest gear means everything so I would say that it doesn't really matter which race you pick. A high initial wisdom would be beneficial off the bat but eventually you will overcome any problems your race may present with gear. My suggestion is to pick whatever you think looks cool and run with it.

true, though gear with nice stats when you get to higher levels means that when you get the all important heal aggro (lol..saved many clerics butts) you have a better chance of surviving till someone can get the mob off of you.
