BuffingFollow

#1 Nov 22 2005 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I have been doing a pretty active job of buffing on crafting tasks. Although I have countered with buffs as much as possible, I have also been casting buffs when there was nothing to counter. I guess that I am still at a loss to decide if my random buffing is adding anything to the process. Can anyone confirm whether random + counters is any more effective than just countering those that appear?

The key is to watch the first yellow bubble. I use that as my gauge to determine how much Progress or Durability to use. If I have a full bubble, I speed along with Progress. If I loose half that first bubble, I switch to 2 progress and 1 Durability.

If I am at risk of losing the first yellow bubble, I use all Durability.

In other words...

Use Progress buffs to speed along the crafting process.

If you begin to loose Durability and risk loosing the first yellow bubble, add Durability buffs.

Or, if you have a particulary difficult recipie, use Durability to keep it high, the sprint to the end with Progress buffs.

I've actually had full durability, then through a cataclysmal failure lost all down to a crude object, and fought back with Durability for a pristine craft.

The next scene is me excitedly standing at my computer doing the cabbage patch, with stares of horror from my kids. :)

There is a nice wrinkle in crafting. It is that you can go up above 100% durability but you cannot drop below 0% progress.

With this in mind, I tend to cast 2 or 3 buffs each pulse, buffing durability only until I have achieved the first level of quality (crude). At that point I switch to progress buffs having usually "banked" over 100 points of durability by this time.

Using this method, I am able to achieve pristine more than 99% of the time.

I tend to only use the buff in each set that costs power only when needed, although if you are crafting "naked" your power will usually stay up around 70 - 80% no matter how often you cast the power buff.
