If it's anything like EQ1, probably a very long time, should still be there if you start up again 
As Bluie said: Indefinitely. Sony learned their lesson with that in Everquest, early on.
The original policy in Everquest was that characters would be wiped after 6 months of inactivity. The time came for them to do the first wipe, 7 months after launch - and there was a hue and cry against it from the peanut gallery. So Sony quietly changed the internal policy without changing the stated policy, and no character wipes ever occurred after that, up until they got to the server merge and low-level inactive character wipe a few months back.

That is 100 % true. I'm suprised someone knows so much information without telling me =) Well, good job. You can stay on for 2 weeks max, and then your file......Dies. It is an auto-kill. If you character stays inactive for 2 weeks, EverQuestII kills your player. Your character will not lose anything, your armor will not be damaged, but your character will just be...Dead. =)

As long as you go back to them with all the original information it should be ok
Yeah, I got a hankerin' to play again (quit in Feb.) and re-subscribed. My toons are still there. I'm installing a TON of updates right now, so I've not yet come in contact with my dead characters. That should be fun.
