Hi all,

So I got EQ2 last Christmas but my system wouldn't run it.
Well I just setup my new killer rig last night and Installed EQ2 and patched but havent played yet.

I'm a long time EQ player and was wondering if I could get some helpful inciteful tips as I dive back into the realm of noob. Smiley: lol

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Welcome back!

1. Do not skip the tutorial the first time through. It does a very good job of getting you accustomed to the interface.

2. Do everything possible on the island. Don't just run through and get to the mainland. There are a lot of nice low end items to be had if you have the patience to get them.

3. Start crafting! There is no better time like the present to craft.

4. Don't get down on yourself for being broke. 10 silver goes a looooongggg way in this game.

5. Any race can be any class. Feel free to choose whatever you want. Be forewarned, though, that if you want to be a good player and choose an evil race, such as the Ratonga, at the character select screen, you will have to do a lengthy, but very fun, betrayal quest.

5. Most of all, have fun. That is what it is all about.

Do as many quests as you can. You'll get good exp, some cash, items, armor and weapons, and maybe a little something for your room.

Speaking of cash, it will come in a trickle for a while. But don't dispair, eventually you will be getting good money.

On the Isle kill the crabs for the chest that drops a quest before you hit level 4. Once you hit 4 the crabs will be gray and the chest wont drop. The quest is the Scrimshaw Token. It's not much but it is a fun little quest.

Another lesser know quest on the Isle is the one you get from examining the broken statue in the water just out and a little to the right of the waterfall (near one Ebik's missing pieces). The quest is to kill 10 razortooth sharks. The reward is for a nice little cap. If you wish to appear cap-less use the command /hoodoff (I think that's the command) to hide it.

One more quest I really enjoyed was dropped by Bladefin, a really nasty shark that swims around the ruins in the bay. I have never been able to kill this shark alone with any of my characters. His spawn rate is a bit slow but he eventually will dro a book that leads to the "Aquatic Research" quest. It is another one of my favorite quests.

Good luck

Close. The command is /showhood.

Nice post. Forgot about the crabs.

Once I arrived on the island, there were a couple things that struck me as being wildly different from EQ.

1) Money is really tight! A couple of copper can make your day. Early on, sell everything you can't use don't hang on to any item because it "may" be useful later on. When "later on" does come, there will probably be better gear falling off the mobs and being handed out by the quest givers so take the money and run!

Besides, saving stuff early on only leads to #2, which is:

2) Space is also really tight. While you're on the island, you won't have access to anything larger than a 4 slot bag and even if you learn to craft, 4 slot bags and/or 4 slot boxes are probably all you will manage to make for yourself so don't waste what little space you have.

This theme will carry over even after you leave the island since for a while at least you won't be able to afford the larger bags and boxes that will taunt you from the broker's window!

One last thing... if you thought druids rocked in EQ, just wait till you see them strut in EQ2!!! They are arguably the best healer in the game and one of the strongest soloers to boot!

Prized by both group and raid, both wardens and furys, (the 2 druid sub-classes), tend to be actively recuited by guilds on every server! On top of all that, they are absolutely qualified to go it alone... what more could you ask from a toon!
