i'm about to install and i need to know what the pet classes are? i'm a fan of the hunters, rangers, etc. i want to pick the right class.

You need to actually look at the ranger spell list. Rangers do get a hawk pet at 20. Now it may just follow you around, but it is better company then those creepy zombies necs get.
But if you want a real pet, go with mage then summoner.
