Cleric Druid or ShamanFollow

#1 Aug 10 2005 at 12:36 AM Rating: Decent
I need some advice on classes here I just started EQ2 about a week ago. I am makeing a Priest class to duo with my hubby who is making a Pally. I was thinking about being a Druid so I would have more options than the traditional Cleric class. I wanted to know if this is going to work out all the way to lvl 50 or if when I get into the 30's & 40's I am going to wish I had gone with Cleric class because of needing the higher end heals.

From what I have heard the Warden would work well for healing and for duo, and the Fury is more of a solo/group class. I have no idea if that is correct or opinion only..?

Any advice or suggestion welcome!

thanks, Heavenleah lvl 9 Priest

I have a brace of druids, one of each and wouldn't even consider playing any other priest class.

Here's how I think the "holy three" shake out;

Shaman are the kings of warding damage. "What doesn't reach the tank can't hurt the tank" is their motto. Many of their abilities center on shielding the intended target from damage instead of healing it after the fact.

Clerics are the traditional RPG healer. Direct heals and reactives are their stock in trade. I often think of a Pally as a fighter/cleric hybrid.

Druids are the champions of HoT (Heal Over Time). Our durational healing spells help keep the tank standing by feeding health regen to him as the mob chews him up. (Last night I was in a Varsoon group with my warden and every time I dropped a HoT on the tank, I could watch as her health went, yellow - green - yellow - green - yellow - green. And this was against a heroic mob that was 4 levels above us! IMHO, HoT's ROCK!

One more thing... Druids come in two flavors, wardens are the defensive druid while furys are the offensive druid. This is not to say that furys don't heal or wardens don't fight! Just that they tend to lean towards one side or the other.

I have a Druid I am working on right now, I can say that she can stand her own, really a good class if you like to solo. I am at lvl 18 at the moment and when I hit 20 I am going to take up the Fury proffesion. It is all a matter of preference in my opinion but I love my Druid, even the swirling leaves when they cast is awesome.

I am not sure about the other healer sub classes but you get a nice set of buffs and Spirit of the Wolf which make you just as fast if not faster than a ranger.

Ummmm... faster, but don't tell the rangers!

SoW (druid speed) = 20% speed increase
Pathfinding (ranger speed) = 16% speed increase
