Game crashing issueFollow

Sorry, I know I probably shouldn't post this question here, but, I'm getting too frustrated and this is my last stop.

I purchased EQ2 last night, and after I installed and downloaded the patch I went to make my character. The game promptly locked up on me. Since then I have spent about 8 hours total trying to get the game to work and have had no success.

I have an AMD athlon xp 2700+
512 DDR ram
a Geforce FX 5950 ultra video card with 256 RAM and the most up to date drivers.
DirectX 9.0c

I am running on a router, and with the info I have given the SOE tech support people, they say the problem is my internet connection. I was using a Microsoft MN500 router, but that wasn't on the supported router list on the tech support webpage, so after about 5 hours of trying to get things working, I went and bought a D-link DI624, which is supposed to be compatible.

I did everything I could but I am still not able to play, the only other thing I can figure is I don't have the port settings correct, or there is some other hardware conflict going on somewhere.

My roommate seems to have no trouble at all with playing on the game, and we share a connection, so that also leads me to believe its not necessarily the internet connection that is the problem.

If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance.

I'm computer illiterate, I let my gf handle on the hard stuff. All I know is check to make sure your Geforce is compatable, I had the same problem to and it turned out the the one I had was the only Geforce not compatable Smiley: rolleyes

You could verify your connection by moving you computer over to your buddies cable, and plug in that way. Or skip the router and temporarily plug directly into the cable that comes from the wall. That will knock out possible bad gear.

Agree on checking for your video card to ensure it's compatible.

You should drop in another 256 or 512 of RAM into your box.

Can you play other graphic intensive games? Can you even surf the web?

figured it out, was actually due to an underpowered power supply, the new video card took up too much juice.

Odd that Tech Support didn't pick up on that. This problem is becoming so common nowadays. Seems like some poor fella with a '400W i-Cute' casing/power supply with a brand new nVidia 7800 is caling in at least once a day where I am.

Another problem I had with your card was the heat. You can use your nVidia driver to check what 'ambient temperature' or case air temperature is like. It should not be anywhere near 50 Celcius. And the GPU should not cross 80 Celcius. Those numbers are on the high side btw. The symptoms are almost exactly the same as for too little power, i.e. BSOD, crashes to desktop/etc. plus you start getting DX error crashed due to error at #########.

How soon before we can play EQ2 on a console? ^ ^
