Starting on SaturdayFollow

#1 Aug 04 2005 at 12:18 AM Rating: Decent
Ok guys starting eq2 on Saturday. I finally got my new computer. I am coming from eq1 or as I call it the we hate melee club. I finally want to play a melee solo class but I have some questions.

1) can melee classes solo effectively
2) was thinking of being a dwarven or Ogre pally can ogres be pallies?
3) not 100% comitted on ebing a pally but want to be a knight class which is most effective soloing?
4) Is there anything I need to be aware of now before I create my toon?

5) I am in the Pacific Standard Time zone what would be a good server?

I know these questions are annoying and awfully repetative but man I've answered a gillion of these type questions on the eq1 board and am looking for some karma payback.

Thanks in advance.

1) I only have my guardian up to lvl 22 but from my limited exp and what i've read on posts they can solo pretty good but SOE is about to nerf fighter classes i'm not exactly how but i'm guessing their going to basically drop the DPS a bit

2)unlike EQ1 you can any race/class combo

3) thats depends on your style of play but check out the other post to find out what might suit you best

4)Not that i can think of other than check out the tradeskilling alot different than EQ1 sometimes just as annoying but definitely more worthwhile and interesting IMO

5)their are some servers that are best for certain areas ie: european servers but other than that their pretty spread out as far as time
have fun :)

Welcome!

1)Melee classes can solo very effectively. Hopefully, the overhaul won't destroy us too bad. Also, in EQ2, the addition of Heroic Opportunites has, IMHO, really added that extra nudge needed to get melee classes to the next level.

2)As the previous poster said, any race can be any class. However, almost all subclasses are alignment specific, and thus, an evil toon cannot be a good subclass, and vice versa, without doing the betrayal quest. Ogres, being evil, cannot be Paladins unless you do the quest.

3)Soloing is really a matter of play style. People will swear up and down that their melee class is the best. All are pretty much capable. Monks are going to give you great DPS, with a little lack in defense. Warriors give great defense, but low DPS. Pallys will give you an even keel while also being able to self heal. Again, really depends on how you play.

4)If you are looking to create an evil character and make him good, know that the betrayal quests are very, very long. You have to be committed to spending a lot of time on these quests.

5)Not sure on this one.

Good luck to you, and welcome to the best game you will ever play!

For soloing with a fighter all of them have their strengths

Monk/bruiser's will add more DPS and if you have good gear almost never get hit, but watch out for mage types, they will blast your *** into oblivion.

Guardians will do less damage but take less as well, expect longer battles.

Zerker's will do a lot of DPS AND have good defense, my personal favorite for a tank soloer.

Pld/SK play basicaly the same cept SK's make the battles go faster with a lil more DPS and pally's draw it out and wear them down over time.

so would it be worth it to do the ogre then the betrayal quest just so i can have the ogre pally or should I just go dwarf?

Ogres have less wisadom than dwarves but not by a big margin so both class will be as good as a crusader. Ogres have more strengh. The power of crusaders are bassed on wisdom.
If you want to make the betrayal quest go ogre, an other advantage is that youll get to see both city with your first character.

All starting stats on races may make a initial difference, but it will be glazed over with equipment and abilities later on. So it won't matter what race you pick.

One thing to keep in mind with large characters like Troll and Ogre, is that you will be cramped inside certain dungeons. I've heard more than one complain about getting "snagged" here and there in the dungeon because of their large size.

Also remember there is really no "best" of anything to play. SOE has taken great pains to balance all classes, in fact to the point where there is disapointingly little difference.

Even though some fighter classes may have higher DPS than other fighters, they are not a "DPS" class. DPS classes are Mages and Scouts and they will always out-damage a fighter class. But that is ballanced with the fighters ability to stand toe-to-toe with a mob and duke it out. Priests are the healers of the game.

So it will depend on what you like and what you envision your character being and doing.

With all the solo content around, everyone has the same opportunities to advance. Play what you like, and above all, have fun! :)

There are two RP servers: Antonia Bayle and Lucan DLere. AB is quite populated and LD is getting there. If you are looking for harcore RP, though, you may be disappointed. I can't speak for AB, but I know on LD that at the lower levels you won't find very many people that like to truly RP and the ooc chat runs rampant in the larger zones. I believe that most of these people came to the servers because of the larger pops and not because they are into RP. Either way, though, there are some great guilds on both servers that are strictly RP and you will still have a great time.
