Thinking of trying EQ2Follow

#1 Aug 01 2005 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
Hi..

I've been a longtime player of FFXI but more and more lately i've just had enough of the game. I wish to try something new..

One of the main things that bug me is the level grind, how is the leveling system in EQ2?

Also wondering what servers are good (with regards to server population, economy and general player attitude/maturity).. this may sound like an odd question but on FFXI some servers have an awful economy, things are priced through the roof and also some servers are dominated by the Japanese making end-game activites very hard to enjoy.

Any advice/help you can give me about your game would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea whatsoever what EQ2 would be like.

Thanks ^-^

Good news is, there's a lot of info in the forum to find and read.
Bad news is, there's a lot of info in this forum to read.

Start with this thread, and scroll down a bit, even a few pages back, looking for similiar named threads.

To try EQ2 before buying, try this.

Economies ebb and flow, so what is true this month may not be so next month. But that's ok since the game is built to where you can be almost be completely self-sufficient. Meaning lots of solo mobs, lots of quests, lots of possibilities.

Regarding servers, each server will have it's own economy, but there is not much difference. A few gold saved here and there cannot offset other bad factors of a server. Since the release of the Splitpaw Saga ($8 adventure pack) it seems prices have begun a steady climb up. It could be the extra cash people are finding, or the influx of new characters with high level and rich mains.

Log on during your normal playing hours and look for servers that are full or nearly full. That will tell you what size crowd to expect when you play. It may take a few trys to find a server that suits you.

Najena is a good server, with a large population and spectrum of levels. From new Frogloks to high end raid guilds. The economy is fine, but prices seem to be going up. That's cool since my guild has a few artisans to support us, and since I don't raid, I don't need every spell uber-ized.

Good luck

If you scroll down through this forum, all of the questions/reservations you have will be answered. Just to throw in my 2cp...

The leveling system in EQ2 can be...whatever you want it to be. You can grind your way to the top or you can quest (and there are a lot) for the xp. IMHO, any MMORPG or any RPG leveling system is a grind. If you want to get to the higher levels, it is not just given to you. You have to earn it. I don't feel this is a grind. I think, in fact, you level much too quickly in EQ2. I started an alt and was at level 10 in about an hour. EQ2 has a vitality bonus that gives you added xp and, for the most part, you will usually be on double xp, so the "grind" really isn't.
