Whose's the rarest of them all...Follow

I am just getting started on EQII though I am a vet of EQ. I want to create as unique a character as possible, and was wondering what the top, oh, five most rare classes were. I realize this will vary on different servers. I would probably be playing on one of the RP servers. If you want to throw in opinions on race/class combo rarity I would appreciate that too, though I myself have human/elf leanings and would probably go that way no matter what.

I was leaning toward playing a monk, which I never played in EQ1. Are monks under or overpopulated?

Thanks for all your opinions and ideas. I like to go my own way as much as possible and would rather not run into characters that look just like me constantly.

I should add that while I would consider Freeport side, my personality lends itself better to Qeynos. The monk I'm consdering playing would probably be high elf female.

On Antonia Bayle [rp server], a female, high elf monk.

There, I've just done you more good than your shrink ^ ^.

---------

Seriously....

You want to be a monk? But there are more fighters than any other class.

You want to be based in Qeynos, on AB you will be with the majority of players as in 3:1 at least vs Freeport.

I've seen more high elves in Qeynos than other races too, but I could be wrong.

So you've kinda picked a rather popular combo [fighter's common, monk is not that common though]

----------

You could try logging in, then do a /who on the class you want. The list will also show their level and race as well although not their city affiliation.

Well, my most heavily played toon on EQ1 was a chantie, which was why I was leaning toward fighter. And I've not decided to play anything yet. HIE Monk was just what popped into my head when I was reading the manual and looking at the class/race options. Thanks.

If you like to keep busy like you did as a chanter, how about a Rogue?

A rattie rogue [and you can defect to Qeynos, since ratties are from Freeport] which you can change to a ranger or a bard later on.

You'll have to be an expert on HOs and the ranger has the best ranged damage. Not to mention the usual things like Track, Sneake/etc.

Can only speak for Highkeep server, which is underpopulated, but seems any of the enchanter classes are very lacking.

Illusionists and Coercer are sort after by most guilds.

Or, just do the betrayal quest and be something like a High Elf Necromancer..

I'm a Dark Elf Conjurer on Highkeep and I haven't run into another one yet. Plenty of other conjurers of course but not a dark elf one.

Enchanter
Troubador/Dirge
Assassin

Those would be some of your most rarely seen classes.

I think a good unique mix would be taking a race that is typically good/evil and making it an opposite class.

Examples:
Female Gnome Shadowknight
Ratonga Monk
Troll Conjurer or Enchanter

You can use 'good' and 'evil' in your /who commands to narrow down by city affiliation. Example:

/who druid evil all

Will return all druids, wardens, and furies that are citizens of freeport.

Stumbled onto this by accident trying to search for a guild member that has 'evil' in his name and when i did '/who evil all' I got a list of all freeport citizens plus our guild member :P

On my server:
Most uncommon fighter is bruiser (evil monk)
Most uncommon mage is enchanter (both types, with coercer being slightly less common)
Most uncommon priest is defiler
Most uncommon scout is brigand

Other uncommon classes: bards (both types) and mystics. To a lesser extent, swashbucklers and assassins are abnormal on my server, but probably not as much in other places. Unfortunately, evil characters are less common than good, so if you're set on Qeynos, that writes off most of those really uncommon classes. You could still have a rare combo by betraying.
For the record, rogues become swashbucklers or brigands, not bards or rangers. But it's true that scout classes are "busy" with lots of clicking hotkeys. Monks can be busy as well, though.

Hmmm rare? As far a races go, I dont think I've seen enough frogloks or dark elves. For a class you could go with a brawler or mabey a guardian.

I started an alt myself. High Elf going-to-be monk. Lvl 13 at the moment and I can't believe there aren't more of them around.

What a little powerhouse! Soloing is great fun.. but then remember this is coming from someone who has played a conjurer until now which means I'm just used to standing around making interesting shapes from leaves while my pet beats stuff up.

I love the brawler combat animations, especially the kung fu stance you can finish of with complete with the 'wooosh' hand noises :)

I want to thank you all for weighing in. I have been doing regular 'who all' checks over the weekend. I think I'm going to go with my initial idea of monk. While they are not nearly as rare as their evil counterpart, they are still outnumbered by most of the other fighters. Also, I have not yet seen a single high elf monk (let alone a female). So I may stand out enough just for that. Thanks again.

I'm baffled to hear people say swashbucklers are fairly uncommon when it's such a fun class to play!

My husband plays a mystic. I first created a guardian to duo with him, then (becuase I'm an alt-aholic) created a scout. To my utter shock, she tanks better than my guardian. I assume it's because of my higher dps and better avoidance. The fights are over much faster than with the guardian. It's unusual for a fight to go on long enough for me to run low on power, with me HOing non-stop. The swashbuckler also has some really fun tricks up her sleeve. I love "escape" and group invis.

I assume rangers are what people often choose over swashbucklers, because of the claim of their higher dps. I'm sure they're a fun enough class in their own way, but I'm keeping my little pirate girl!

Oh, and yes I know swashbucklers aren't real tanks, but we've hit lvl 30 (and then some) and we're still doing great as a duo.

Monk Dwarf! We might be rare but be sure can beat the **** outta stuff.

I know what your thinking, "Dwarf? WTF they don't have high enough agility to be good at monking!"
ITS NOT TRUE! My dwarf monk has more avoidence then my friends Half Elf monk at the same level!

Ome word of warning, dwarven males in the Gi's, not so hot.

Chest hair FTW!
