I try to use a dual wield dagger and symbol/censer. If you can find one with Int on it, get one. Also look for a good power stat. I find that I get more Int bonus and power increase if I go that route.

Look on the broker, using Primary Dual wield and Int as your search function for the dagger.
Use secondary as you search function for the symbol/tome/censer.

I hope this helps

For a long term goal, try to get Stein of Moggok or Tarton's Wheel.

...anad please don't try to melee, even though it's fun to get skill-ups in crushing.

Why dual wield? You get more DPS from a One Hander, and you can still equip the censer in your secondary.

I use dual wield because I have found many more have a better overall Int and Power bonus than One Handed Daggers or Staves.

That and the fact that they seem to be more common and less expensive on the broker. It seems a lot of people don't realize that Mages can use dual daggers in the primary slot.

To the OP. Check the broker for a Wonderous Censer of Light if you can. This is one of the best Secondaries I have seen in game so far for casters. I picked mine up for 15G, but that was before the severe inflation hit. You never know though. You may get a break. If you can't use it yet, save it for your higher lvls.

As long as we're discussing mage weapons, I have a semi-related question. :) My summoner is 16, and has been using a staff to melee. (I don't start fighting until the mob is half health or so, but after not working on mage weapon skills at all in EQ1, I'm paranoid about not building skills in EQ2.) It always tells me that I'm too weak to hit my target. But my crushing skill is maybe 5 points away from being capped...so it shouldn't be too low, right? They aren't talking about my actual strength, are they?

I get the same message taking on level 45 blue groups.

With absolutely no data to back this up, I surmise it's a scable function with STR vs MOB. The higher it cons the less chance I'll have of hitting it.

I should go whomp on some greens to test it out.
