What do you dislike about WoW? Some might disagree, but I think there are a lot of similarities between WoW and EQ2.

I am currently playing WoW, EQ2, and Guild Wars. I pre-ordered EQ2 and wasn't even planning to play WoW, but some of my RL friends ignored EQ2 and went to WoW. So after EQ2 had been out for about a month, I joined them in WoW.

EQ2 is very quest-oriented, they have their own version of WoW's "bonus XP", you get small amounts of XP every time you discover a new area, there's an in-game quest log, and you can even hop on the back of a griffin and get free rides over long distances. Those are just some of the similarities off the top of my head.

I think the graphics in EQ2 are better, and - just my opinion - I think EQ2 is a little more challenging that WoW.

I hate WoW too. I blew 50 bucks on it and turns out to be th sh*ttiest game i've ever played. The gameplay is extremely childish, as is the theme, and the graphics and art design is too kiddie and cartoony. Also, the character models are way too over-exxagerrated (elves ears are as long as the eiffel tower and the tauren are like monsters out of a child's story. And the character customization is appaling as well. And lastly, it's way too easy to level up and the setup is too simple and bland, as are the controls.

Anyway, you should definitely give EQII a try, it's an incredible game.

I play both games, I also play EQ1. EQ1 was my first MMO, I started playing about a year and a half ago, loved it and was hooked until EQ2 came out.

WoW is fun, but I don't think the world is fleshed out very well, there isn't a lot of incentive to explore, and things stay pretty much the same from beginning to end. As time goes on and I play both games, I like EQ2 more than WoW by a wider and wider margin. Sometimes I just can't bring myself to start up WoW.

First off, EQ2 is definitely not EQ1 - the tactics and class balancing are completely different. Combat is also much more predictable, and the con system leaves no room for uncertainty. Actual combat is very similar to WoW. Easy and repetitive.

If you like grouping EQ2 has a huge advantage over IMHO solo-oriented WoW. All things equal, you'll exp faster in a group than you will solo. Which is not to say you can't solo - any class can do so and make real progress. (I've made 80% of my exp solo.)

If you like game lore, one of the best things about EQ2 is discovering how and why Norrath has changed and seeing the places you know from EQ. I read someone (maybe here) who said EQ2 is one big mystery - and that's spot on. I also feel the world in general is more interesting visually. There's more variety. I mean, aside from major cities, is EVERY zone in WoW a forest with impossibly huge trees or a desert, and do people really only build 3 or 4 different structures? Every zone in EQ2 is different.

Tradeskills in EQ2 are much deeper and more productive financially than in either EQ1 or WoW, by far.

If you're not a min-maxer and you like lore and exploration you'll like EQ2. If you like to grind experience by camping and pulling and hate quests, you won't like it.

Rin, if you decide to stay with EQ Live and also want to play EQ2 there is a discount price for both. It's not a lot but it is something. The only problem with the Station Pass is that you forfit any Rewards you may have gotten. That really stinks! I have played EQ for years and because I switched two of my accounts to Station Passes I lost all of my rewards. Sorry, I digress.

Make sure to check out the free Trial of the Isle. You can download it from the Sony webpage.

I just downloaded the Trial of the Isle and am having alot of fun in it, graphics look great and so far its been lag free. What I think im going to do is get EQ2 and since I use gamecards to pay for my games ill get the one month game card for Eq2 I saw in gamestop yesterday and try it out for the month plus the free month.
