I just got the journeyman boots, and they really don't seem to do much. My character runs at the same speed with or without them (yes, I have attuned them). Seriously, I can't see the difference in speeds at all, and if this is just the way it is, why is there such a hogh demand for them?

And also, i've seen some necromancers with 'form' spell where they turn into a cloud of purple haze (<-- hah). Is there a 'form' spell for Conjurers?

The j-boots you got are from the deluxe version of the game, right? They are a freebee for buying that edition and not at all like the J-boots that can be quested for.

The Quested J-boots are a bit tougher to get but very nice to have. The quest itself can be obtained from a bard just outside the North Qeynos gate.

Still, you should see some effect from the free ones... not much but something...

The preorder J Boots give a 10% speed increase when worn. It's not much and it's hard to tell, but there is an increase. If you run next to someone who doesn't have them, you'll slowly pass them over time. Where the most dramatic increase shows up, is when you sprint. It's still not that much of an increase, but it can mean the difference between living and dying if that nasty mob is chasing you.

Conjurers have several forms. They are purchasable in Qeynos Harbor, vendor across from the street from the Scribe, near the South Qeynos gate.

20 - Illusion: Fire elemental - Floating 6-arm flaming chick. Very nice.
30 - Illusion: Water Elemental - 3-4 floating, morphing, shifting water balls. Running makes it look like a jiggling silver water balloon.
35 - Illusion: Air Elemental - Looks like a large ghostly moth. Also very nice, but don't call me Mothra. :)
40 - Illusion: Earth Elemental - don't know, haven't bought that one. I'm assuming either a rock pile or a grap ape (Adept 3 pet)
45 - Group Illusion: Air Elemental
50 - Group Illusion: Earth Elemental

Oh alright that clears it up a bit, thanks briar. And is that necromancer smoke illusion the only form they have?

Not sure what form gives what image though...

20 - Nylph's Bone Form
30 - Nylph's Zombie Form
35 - Nylph's Flayed Form
45 - Nylph's Skeletal Regiment
50 - Dartain's Cloaking Debris

The spell list here at alla does not have the purchasable spells. You can find a complete list here.

Alright thanks...now I have a dilemma on what path I should choose for my mage, conjurer or necromancer..my current mage, who I haven't even entered the game world with yet, has evil alignment. So I guess i'd have to do the betrayal quest in order to be a conjurer right? And about how long do the betrayal quests take?

And how long would it take to get a new mage up to level 20? (assuming I play about 3 hour a day at most)

EDIT: ok well i started a mage with good alignment, and now he's level 6. naturally, now ive decided i would rather have a necromancer. i really dont want to delete this character, i kinda like him, but the betrayal quest is just too damn hard. you have to kill 500 orcs plus countless other mobs and people. then of course there's the traveling time on top of that. i dont really know why i want a necro more than a conjurer....i like the forms a bit better (the coolest one that a necromancer has is the fire one, and the guy who posted before said it was a chick elemental, and i dont wanna be a girl when i do it) and the pets as well (id rather have a zombie or skeleton hunting for me than water blobs or piles of rocks).

You could actually get to level 20 in less than a week by grinding. At 3 hours a day, maybe 2-3 weeks.

For the betrayal, keep in mind that you will be killing thousands of creatures over your lifetime anyway. It really doesn't matter what kind you kill. But if you do, it may as well be twords a goal of some sort.
Betrayal is a good way for people to start a good/evil charater and join their RL friends in the opposing city.

Also keep in mind that there is really little need to hang around your starting city. The bank and broker would be all you miss. Of course if you tradeskill that's a different story...and you will need to visit your Class Trainer to advance past levels 9 and 19.
But in the other zones there are merchants, menders, and mail-kiosks.

When I play now, the only time I go back to my home town is if I need to swap something in the bank or buy something from the broker. And then I just use the broker in Qeybos Harbor, close to the bell and ferry out of town.

The forms are kind of, Oh, wow, I'll wear this one for a while...but then it gets tiring having to recast it everytime I zone, and frankly my 5 hotbars are completely full of other spells and clickables. Now I am typically found in wolf form, using a Spitit of the Wolf totem for fast running speed.

...and running from zone to zone is part of EQ2 life. :)

True, but then we still "run" in some sort. Until that (60) platinum moment when we can afford a flying carpet. :)

I actually hate Freeport as a city, I just wish to be a citizen there so I can be a necromancer. Meh I guess i'm stuck with conjurer for now, unless there's some magical way to be a necromancer in Qeynos :p

Just a side note. If you do decide to go necromancer and betray remember to give up your house before you betray.

Someone who knows more about betrayal than me should probably respond, but I believe that since you have to betray at or before level 17, and since you don't pick your class till level 20, you cannot betray and be a necro.

If you betray FP, you can't be a necro. But you could betray Qeynos, and end up as a wood elf or high elf necro Smiley: smile
