Hey,i'm just starting Everquest2,and I love scouts.. My brother loves them too,so I thought i'd go for one.
Now what is the best scout tree for me? This is what I like:
Hitting fast!
Hitting hard!
Being good at soloing!
Actually having a use in groups.. I hated WoW,being a hunter,never having a use in groups :(
And I want to be able to last somewhat "long",nothing like warrior length,but something that doesn't make me feel like paper!
I must also say that I love the sound of Brigands,Swashbucklers and Assassins...

Then, you've answered your own question! Playing what you love is much more interesting than playing whatever was percieved to be the "best" at the moment you choose it.
There is already an ebb and flow to this game... an evolution in the way characters work and with a major change to combat coming soon, no one really knows what will be "best" after that point.
Besides that, the various classes are pretty well balanced in EQ2 with most classes being able to solo and most everyone being valuable to a group.
Diversity and Equality - what a concept!!!
Bottom line here - is do you, (or should anyone else), really care if your character has a dps of 38 and someone else's character has a dps of 39? Especially if you play that character really well because you just love to play him?
I think you have 3 really interesting choices... problem now is which of those to pick!
