New EQ2 player question about Splitpaw Saga and dialup play.Follow

#1 Jul 11 2005 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
I just bought EQ2 and I have been browsing the forums and noticed some people talking about Splitpaw Saga and how it costs $8... I have yet to install EQ2, so I have no idea where and how I can purchase Splitpaw Saga... also I looked at ebgames.com and noticed they dont list it as an expansion pack. Is it a downloaded pack?

The other question is concerning dialup play...
I have played FFXI and WoW on dialup and I have no problems at all playing them. No lag or anything. How is EQ2 on dialup? I realize that PvP might be tough, but how about regular gameplay?

Any answers to the questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would suggest download www.trialoftheisle.com before installing your copy of EQ2. Reason is, why waste your CD-KEY when you may not be able to play it at all. It maybe fine on Dial-up but I am not 100% sure. Testing it out on the free version will let you see how it runs with other people in game.

By the time I actually download the trial someone will probably come by and post on this thread about dialup playability. :P

Being on dialup sucks in so many ways.

Dialup is possible, given that dialup on a 56K bit/sec modem gives around 40 Kbit/sec ACTUAL bandwidth. Lag is far more likely from having 512 MB RAM; with 1024 MB RAM you are lag-less in cities, always assuming your in-game video settings are set to high performance rather than quality. Lag is less a network speed issue than RAM and video settings, although substantially less than 33.6K bps will have the effect you're fearing. I do know I was able to run two toons from dialup modem, but I tended to just tradeskill or go to empty places.

It's a download. After you install the game and activate your account, you can pay for it and download it here.

I played on 56k for about a month and a half before getting DSL. I don't see much of a difference in loading time(My computer is so lame...) but I definatly see a difference when I'm around other people. I would lag alot in places like BlackBurrow and especially cities. Most of it was due to my lack of RAM, but getting DSL definatly helped with crowded areas. If you have a pretty good computer, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with dial-up. Mine is a 1.8 GHZ processor with 512 RAM. It used to be decent about four years ago...*sigh*
