Old EQ player with questing question for EQ2Follow

#1 Jul 10 2005 at 12:40 AM Rating: Decent
I played EQ for about 5 months around 2 years ago. Loved the game, but could never find time to play it, so I had to quit. Well, I'm looking into playing EQ2 and I have some questions that may influence my decision.

One of the main reasons I played EQ was for questing. I'm a semi-role player. I like to stay with the story (or what I believe a fantasy character should be doing) while I'm in-game, but I like to talk about whatever I like. I don't like to talk like a fantasy character should. Back on subject, after I played EQ for awhile, I noticed there wasn't much questing. Many quests I wanted to do required a group to accomplish it, however, most groups didnt want to quest. They just wanted to kill for exp. Therefore, most questing I did was solo.

So, what is questing like in EQ2? Is it hard to find questing groups? Or is it like EQ and everyone justs wants exp? What are some ways to get groups for questing? Should I join a clan? Or are there certain servers I should play on?

Thanks for the help. Hopefully I'll get the game soon.

There are tons of quests to do...i'd say most of eq2 is about doing quests...not just xp grind all the time. Sure you will find groups on the grind, but there is alot to do in eq2 wether it be questing or xp. Also, much to do solo or in group...hope to see ya sometime in game maybe..im on oasis server if thats where u so chose..GL in any case

i never played EQ so i cant compare... but there are 100's of different quests, varying from very easy to very hard, you can do them solo or as a group, when im bored, ill do a quest, maybe a crap random one, but something to fill in time, like collecting badger pelts, crap maybe, but fills in time, and i might get side tracked while doing it.

there are 2 RP servers Antonia Bayle and Lucan D'Lere, i've not tried them so can't comment on how intense the RP'ing is.

i dont really have time to play either work 7/9 days, on shifts, dont really work for me, but i still play 2 hours a day if i can.

Either way... HAVE FUN!

There are well over a thousand quests and the stretch from lvl 1 - before you even hit the Island of Refuge (beginning tutorial) to whatever level the game goes to! (I know... it's 50... for the moment.)

Most quests can be soloed but when you do need some help, it's easy and common to ask in /ooc for help or just speak to another player who is already in the area where you need something.

In fact, this happened to me last night - another player ran up to me and asked me to help him kill a specific mob he needed for a quest... we grouped, killed the mob and disbanded... took all of 2 minutes... simple!

One of the cool things about questing in EQ2 is that you don't actually get the item(s) you are looking for... what I mean is they never have to be looted and kept in a bag... you just get credit for finding the item and you move on.

There are 2 big benefits to this. First, you don't waste space in your bags toting all that stuff around but beyond that, more than one group member can get credit for the same item during the same kill... If everyone needs the item and it's there, everyone gets credit for it... so there is no competition between group members for the thing you all need... and that promotes cooperation.

As far as the role playing servers... I don't think all that much role playing actually goes on there but I could be wrong... They are listed as "role playing preferred" whatever that means!

Doesn't mean you can't RP there or anywhere else you like... to whatever degree you choose... it's your 15 bucks a month!!!

Good luck and I hope you decide to play... it's a great game!

Thanks for the info. Sounds good to me. I really like that credit thing for quests. I remember having to kill the same thing 6 times before it was my turn to recieve the prize. I hopefully will be in-game by the end of the summer. Thanks!

I remember my first day on an RP server. I had a semi-Roleplaying attitude when I asked someone whether they prefered Berserker or Swashbuckler, and they replied "Depends on if you love combat or women. Swashbucklers are fun to drink with but I'd rather have a Berserker by my side". I had a wide smile on my face. This was a random person mind you. I continued to meet other people who added to the RP experience by doing things such as chatting like a Dwarf or Barbarian would and such. Of course I have ran into people who don't really get into the RP as much but It's still a fun experience.
