And why is it so hard to find information on them?

Ok. This post is two-fold. First, I have finally been able to find some of the rare recipe scrolls. Yippee!!!! I farmed the heck out of the ++Oakmyst Spiders and they have dropped three for me so far, plus a storm of lightning (Adept I). It was quite a tedious task trying to round up information on the whereabouts of Artisan Strategem Scrolls Volume 9, or any of the recipe books for that matter. I looked EVERYWHERE for info to no avail. I searched (almost, there's a lot of them :))every single page in this forum and the consensus was "Buy at the broker". If you don't mind farming for a bit, save your hard-earned money, and eventually they will drop.

Which brings me to my next point, which is actually a question. Will mobs still drop chests if they con grey? I have heard conflicting information on this. Just wanted to know. Thanks in advance.

No, grey mobs do not drop chests, although they do drop body loot (like bones and skin...vendor trash mostly).
If you really want the rare books and are in danger of leveling past the mobs you're farming, you can turn off your combat experience (just in case you don't know this yet). Right click your xp bar in the persona window and you'll have the option to disable combat experience.

I appreciate you clearing that up for me. Now, I know in EQ1 there was a formula to figure out at what level a mob becomes trivial. What is the formula for EQ2?
