My system!Follow

Hey all,

Going to get a new system for EQII:
AMD Athlon 3200+
1GB DDR 400 MHz RAM (2x 512MB)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Video Card

Now, I'm just a little cautious - I want the game to run very stably, very prettily (graphics wise) and very smoothly. Will I be able to do all that with the above specs?

Also, is a Geforce 6600GT or 6800 a better option than the Radeon 9800? I've heard it encounters quite a few problems with EQII.

Thanks a bunch.

The 9800 is a good card, though remember that EQ2 is optimized for Nvidia, meaning Geforce.

I don't know what level of graphics you want by "pretty" but 1 GB of RAM will give you decent, though not the best graphics.

I have that exact same system (with a Gigabyte nVidia nForce motherboard). The game runs alright but I have found I still don't want to run the game in full detail (remember, the designers purposely added graphics detail and capabilities that many current systems still can't reach).

I run the game at 1280x1024, Very High Performance - with some settings bumped up. Was running at Balanced at 1024x768 but decided I'd prefer the bigger screen res vs. a few fancy extra details. I still notice what appears to be FPS drop when around a bunch of people in a city zone (however, I believe technically it's not a video performance issue).

The game is, by far, better looking than EQ1 (don't know about the newest EQ1 zones which I didn't venture into).

I will say that I am encountering an issue from time-to-time when doing tradeskills. But I don't know what the problem is, exactly, and so far, it's only when at a tradeskill workstation.

you will be playing the game at high performance with these setting, i dont know how much you can shell on that machine, but you are upgrading to a 1 year old setting. If you want the system to last you longer, shell a bit more and get 2gig or ram and get the videocard 1 level higher i dont know which ones they are as i havent upgraded in almost 2 year and i am myself using an ati9800pro.

With that card and 1 gig of ram, and a 2.4 p4, i run at high performance pretty easily and balanced when not too many people around and i solo.

As for the game being optimized for Nvidia its just some commercial ********* the game isnt optimized for nvidia more than its optimized for dell system hehe.

Btw never had a single problem with ati card, just too bad the new one cost a god damn lot of $.

Alright. So I ended up getting a completely different system, because my local store had this pretty good open box sale. Here it is:

Pentium 4 630HT
1GB Ram
ATI Radeon X700Pro

Any thoughts as to the video card? I'm not really familiar with it.
