Is this game playable?Follow

Ahh, the dreaded server maintenance. It has been a scourge on every MMO i've ever played (except galaxies....why is the worst game the only one with a decent schedule?). I realize maintenance is required and i'm even happy that they do it so that maybe EQ won't suffer the same ridiculous server downtimes we were tortured with in WoW.....there was a 3 full day period where i could not play. But on the first scheduled maintenance i have encountered so far playing this game, it has gone on at best 1.5 hrs longer than expected and, at worse, 4 hours longer (I dont know what time zone the 7 a.m. start time comes from). I dont want to gripe as i realize sometimes the unexpected happens, but i would like to know how often this sort of thing happens. One of my pet peeves is being flat out lied to consitently by the company i am paying monthly. Is maintenance routinely extended well beyond the initial e.t.a. or is this just a one time thing due to the recent update?

this is the longest downtime they've ever had in this game.

usually its 1 hour every couple days.

its just because of the adventure pack being added today. usually they are pretty good on e.t.a's.

The times given by Sony are always Pacific coast times.
This is in no way the Longest down time they have had with this game. Back in December 04 they were down for, Well I forget how long, nearly a whole weekend. (I am sure someone will know how long it was). They re-paid players with free game tme and accelerated XP gain, which made most people resonably happy. So if it is just a few extra hours, it could always be worse.

Back then if i recall correctly that downtime on december 4 lasted 26 hours. I recall that moment cuz it was the first time i had taken some time off to play the game and get stuff done but couldnt play for a whole day. Then ive been repaid by xtra xp for days i couldnt log in. Hehehehehe :)

I wish they could get rid of the daily reset. In FFXI, you can go weeks without the server ever going down.

Still it's useful as a time marker [Let's meet up 2 hours after reset - few people are good at timezone calculations but most people know what time the server resets].

Ah... it's a feature!

The "daily" resets aren't daily anymore. I often play for an hour or two before work, and it happens that the server reset usually happens at 7 am for me. Its perfect, I play for an hour, then when the server resets its time to shower and get ready for work.

Lately that hasn't been happening as much, in fact, I've been a bit late for work a few times because of it lol!

They are only doing the resets about 3 times a week anymore, it seems.

Its daily after a big patch but then it goes back to about 3 times a week. Either that or they are doing it way before I get up or after I go to work.

Ha! you were on one of the lucky servers then. Mine was down for almost 3 days. It pushed me over the edge and made me quit this game.

I have to admit, since I've came back, I'm very impressed with the progress they've made. It's just too bad it took them so long before they listened. Maybe if they'd been more responsive, I'd be able to find enough people LFG to fill up a group.

That's nothing compared to EQ's first month. Not only was the number of users underestimated but the figure used to predict how much time each user spent logged in was totally out of whack.

They gave everybody a free month though. Still, I bet SOE wish they were having those kinds of problems now.

On Antonia Bayle, we get the daily reset at 7am sharp each day save on the weekends.
