Making a few bucksFollow

Just recently started playing EQ2... I'm a long time EQ1'er.

One big difference I've noticed is money. It seems to be rather scarce in EQ2. I'm finding that I am barely able to maintain any money - much of it going to simply buying food and drink (buying the cheapest I can find at the wholesaler broker). This still leaves weapon and armor upgrades (I did manage to get new dual wield weps but armor is all blue/a bit of grey from IoR).

Now, I'm not looking for platinum so that I can twink my chars but I am looking for info on what you reasonably do to make some money and keep your char fairly up-to-date.

I have been doing quests (my gosh... is this game ever quest oriented!... way different from EQ1) but in my experience thus far quests give cp.

Quests can give you armor or weapons too. Check out the quests listed by zone here and look at the rewards for appropriate items.

If you're interested in tradeskills at all, they're a viable means to make money in this game. I've been able to clear over a platinum selling things I've made.

You can also do the harvesting tasks at the wholesaler, see the woman behind the desk. Tier 2 tasks (you need 20 harvesting skill) pay 12 silver, I think. The level of the task they give is based on the higher of your adventurer or tradeskill level. So if you're level 1 - 10, you'll get tier 1 (within the city), 11 - 20 tier 2 (Antonica or Commonlands), etc.

You can also harvest tradeskill resources to sell to other players who don't feel like harvesting themselves. If you're lucky you'll find a rare resource which will sell for quite a lot.

Money is hard to come by, but I have found I generally got enough to buy whatever I need. I am lvl 49 now and I only got 3pp and 50ish gold. The most I ever had at any time was around 6pp, most of my money came from rare loots (master spells, ebon subs, etc). I have never had any luck finding any good rares.

Twinking a charactor is really hard to do, especially now that the froglok craze is out. About the closest you can get to twinking is player made weapons/armor made from rares. Right now on Grobb the price of t1 and t2 rares is absolutely insane.

Lots of good info here. For me tradeskills are my money makers. I have prolly sold 10+ plat in items. But to get there first thing I did was look on the market to see what harvests are selling for. Food and drink based harvests tend to sell for the most pluse you have rares to look forward to. Heck even t2 rares right now on my server are 20+ gold.

doing things like farming named mobs also is a good choice. This will depend on level of course but is very doable.

Bsellick,

If you play on Lucan D'lere server, I would be willing to hire you to do tasks for me for money. I pay my minions very well and I have a constant supply of funding.

If you play elsewhere, I recommend tradeskilling. I won't lie to you and say it's easy or fast, but once you get the hang of it it's very easy (but still not particularly fast).

For your reference - I am a 22 Necromancer, 23 Sage and I have on my character right now 1p, 82g, and about one gold worth of silver/copper. If you count all the money I've ever earned it's over 4p.

I won't give away my secret, but the clue is this - spend the time before you start crafting to organize your recipes on an Excel spreadsheet so you can very easily keep track of what you need to make what. Organization is the key to wealth.

Well, thanks to everyone who replied.

After playing some more, I'm finding the key is patience. Doing quests helps - at least in the early game. I've purchased a merchant board (?) and have sold a couple things for several silver which helps. Just started doing alchemy/potions which I think will be a great help for my own char as well as selling to others... so, not so bad.

And, I have to remember that the money system is different vs. EQ1. Having 1 silver in EQ2 means more than one silver in EQ1.

Yes, lots more. 1 EQ2 plat = 1000 EQ1 pp

Honestly I would go even further, 1 EQ2 pp = 10,000 EQ1 pp.
In terms of purchasing power anyway.

Some ideas for making money - some quests are easily repeatable.

Bsellick, if you are anywhere around level 10 or even a little higher, there is a quest in NQ that will give you about 9s each time you do it, and it is repeatable. The guy's name escapes me, but he's the guy at the top of the ramp to the castle. The quest is civil service, and requires you to kill 10 rats, 10 snakes, and 10 kliknik mites, all easily doable in very little time for anyone level 10 or above. Since you are talking cp quests, I'm guessing you are at or below level 10 so this quest will work well for you.

Also, as you level, money is a little easier. Quests pay more. At level 30+ you can do some repeatable quests in Zek that pay a gold piece or more.

Now, the equipment and spells are also more expensive at that level, but there's ways to handle that too.

Join a guild that accepts low level players. Then, look up your spells and what it takes to make them. Create as many of the ingredients as you can, and make sure you have all the raws that are needed. Then hit up a guildmate that is the proper tradeskill class to do the combine for you. This way you can get most of your spells to app 4 without paying a lot of money for them. Most guildies will do combines for free (or at least for cost plus a small fee). Especially if you gather all the ingredients. And do any combines you can manage on your own.

People really appreciate when you put in some effort on your own and are more willing to help. In return, you should gather extra raws and give them to the person doing the combine, as a thank you. They will be happy to help you again.

These aren't "tricks" to get people to help, they are just courtesies that are usually appreciated.

The same works for armor. If you do the identical stuff and find an armorer in your guild, most often they will combine for you.

You can also try hitting up a stranger that has the LFW (looking for work) flag up. This means they are willing to do combines for a fee. This is still cheaper than buying it from the player vendors if you have all the ingredients.

Guilds are a great way to get information, find friends and people to play with. I highly recommend them. There's guilds for casual players and guilds for hardcore players. Make sure the guild fits your play style and time zone.

If you are reciprocal, many people in the guild will be happy to help you out.

I get half my money from item drops.

The other half from selling food/water [no doubt to folks like you, did you know I use gnoll saliva to give my drinks that 'special' flavour] and harvested items [Hooray for frogloks! Iron clusters went from copper to 5 silver a piece and tuber strands are 100 times more profitable.]

I don't buy any armor or weapons, I just quest for them. The same goes for jewelry and everything else I wear comes from the same source or is self-made.

Right now I'm a level 22 Defiler having earned about 5pp. I have a 40 Illu and she had at most 1pp tops at any time. The difference being she didn't craft as much and at the time, offline selling was not put in.

Forgot to mention that I bought 26 pristine teak strong boxes [24 slots each]. It's worth the investment since you can then keep a lore more stuff in storage for future sale or maybe you have the oppurtunity to just go AFK in merchant mode.

Everytime I login, I just check what stuff has sold and replace them with more, so I have 48 items on sale always.

On Antonica Bayle, my Defiler's averaging 10gp daily. I hope this keeps up and isn't due to the Froggie surge.
