Any character that you create can be an adventure and an artisan. However, once you choose a path there is no going back.

If you just started a character and are on the isle of Refuge, you can get to a max of level 6 adventurer / level 9 artisan before you have to journey to Qeynos/Freeport. At level 10 you will need to seek out the NPC who will teach you the next step in adventuring/crafting.

Yes, you can be an Adventurer and Artisan at the same time.

Adventurers get exp by killing stuff. Artisans get exp by crafting stuff.

Right click your exp bar to change the view between Adventure/Artisn exp.

Type "P" and that will bring up the Persona window. You will see both exp bars telling you how far along you are for both.
