Crafting In eq2 annoying?Follow

#1 Jun 20 2005 at 7:53 AM Rating: Decent
ok i own a coppy of eq2 and i played it right at release.. i was a troll templar <qeynos> and i was like lvl 28 crafting..

I was just wondering if crafting has gotten any better since i left. At the time i could never find tempers to make things with <hence why i created an alc> do you still need 5 chars in order to do crafting or can you actually buy the materials for a fair price now? Also the rare materials. did they ever fix the drop rates on those? i mean i had an entire 30+ person guild mining for materials and we found a total of like 2 rare materials. I think one was a pelt the other was bronz ore.

They did "fix" the drop rates on rares, but they're still annoyingly rare.
They've removed interdependency entirely. There are 4 intermediate skills (apothecary, timbercraft, weaving, geomancy) that allow you to make all your own subcomponents. So you could buy an apothecary book and use your apothecary buffs (which will be in your knowledge book) to create your own tempers. Of course, you can still buy them from an alchemist...I'm not sure if prices have dropped or not. However, since they implemented this feature, they have taken subcomponents off the sellers in the tradeskill instances. It won't matter much to you if you're a tier 3 crafter, but the tier 1 and 2 people can't buy their own WORTs from the tradeskill seller anymore.

Yea making the tempers and resins is pretty easy now. Some of the alternate skills require double the fuel (which has been increased since you played probably). Before Fuel cost like 9 copper. Now fuel costs go up per tier. I think its something like:

4copper tier 1
12 copper tier 2
54 copper tier 3
2 silverish tier 4
9 silverish tier 5

Pretty much any component you need for a recipe can be made by anybody. I personally still think crafting is annoying which is why I gave up on it. It takes too much time to make stuff and I get sick of fighting with green recipes to get pristine.

They just put in a change so that if you counter an event, you're guaranteed a "good round" (base -10 +50, plus the counter buff)

Also, they're working on a quests to give you the abilities to make stacks of refines, cut progress required in half and get items with tradeskill bonuses.

Tradeskills were far from complete when this game launched, but they keep getting better and better without making them so easy it's boring.

I still wished they didn't nerf crafting like they did HOs though. I do understand the effect that WoW has on everything but Crafting and HOs aren't that challenging as they were before. Not to mention the near total lack of interaction [here's hoping extracts don't go down the same route].

---- Off Topic ----

BTW, is it just me but shouldn't the dev who coined 'HO' be shot. Burnt. Shot again.

From SOE's own website, The City of HOs: Guide to nasty HOs in your City

I can see 'Skillchain' written all over this. Maybe Ability String [err.. maybe not. In fact.. nothing that ends with .. -string], or Abilitychain.. or just tell Square that 'skillchain' makes the most sense, please don't sue us for using it. We'll buy 20% of your stock.
