Difference between Isle of Refuge and rest of gameFollow

Something I wanted to ask...

I'm curious how easy the Isle of Refuge is compared to the main game. (FYI - I'm playing the demo "Trial of the Isle").

For example, I notice most of the time after an encounter, I tend to be healed up somehow magically (not always... not quite sure why the difference... and I'm not talking about getting healed by other PC's).

Does the Isle have an xp bonus? I definitely seem to level fast (made lvl 3-4 in a few mins just beating up crabs).

Death seems relatively painless with the choice of where to rez (or revive I guess it is) and I get a glowing path back to my body (boy, I could have used that in EQ1!!!)

I don't know alot about the game, but seems when you get a bubble of exp(a mini ding),you gain health back.

As for leveling,to me anyways,it does not seem linear.By this I mean it takes alot longer to level from 33-34 than from 3-4.

And no more corpse runs, hiring a wizard or druid to port you,and no need to hire a necro or Sk to summon corpse, and no need to hire a cleric for rez.:)

Also SOE really fixed Ranger class in this game.

Health and mana (power) regen are nothing like they were in EQ1. There's very little down-time between fights. As you progress, if you use player-made food/drink appropriate to your level, it will be even faster Smiley: smile

Levelling speed is similar to EQ1 though, the higher you get the longer it takes per level.

thats the way it is in any game, the higher you are the exp required to level increases, at higher levels you tend to have more abilities and be able to do more damage and fight longer without healing, so the exp starts rolling in, but with each level exp tnl increaes so it balances out.

As soon as you reach the cities and the rest of the game it's completely different. IoR is almost like a game by itself that's not quite EQ2 o_O

Bsellick,

The healing effect is intended and remains in the rest of the game. Every time you fill up one of your 10% markers of experience, you will replenish all health and mana. At low levels this doesn't take long to accomplish, so you will seem to always be full. The last time I was really paying attention (when I was around level 19) it took me 10-14 kills to achieve a 10% bubble filled. So as you go up in level the time between experience healing gets slower.

Also, remember on the Trial of the Isle, the moment you pick your class (fighter, mage, etc) you become level 3. So don't feel too surprised to reach level four quickly. ::grin:: But since the island is capped at 6, yes, you'll reach it quickly. When I was there, I did all the quests I could do, and I can attest that at least 75% of them were done while I was already level 6. However, this game will let you gather experience for up to 2 levels past a cap! It just won't give you the levelup yet. So when I left the isle, I had 200% experience above Level 6 (if you mouse over the bar, you can see what you have). What this meant was, when the cap was lifted by my becoming a citizen, I went immediately to level 7, and then immediately to level 8! Nice!

Death is much easier here than in EQ1, I agree. You do still take experience debt, though, and it causes wear and tear to your equipment. At a low level this isn't significant, but when you get higher and get some valuable gear, and experience takes longer to acquire, you'll appreciate trying not to die. =D Also, if you die in an area you aren't able to get back to, just petition and a GM will restore the body back to you.

There's a lot more quests to do when you leave the Isle. It seems that every NPC I met wanted me to work for them!
As the other posters said, the higher you go, the longer it is between levels.

I use the "downtime" when I'm waiting for my power and health to regen to gather, mine and forest the nodes nearby.

The other thing to note about health/mana regen is that it regens faster when out of combat. Waiting for it to regen during battle takes forever, but outside combat you can be at full strength in under a minute for all but the highest levels. Throw in food with bonuses, and it will always be well under a minute.
