Level 27 Newbie Seeking AdviceFollow

Hi there all,

I just reopened my account after being gone since mid-February and wanted some insight into how the game has changed since I have been gone. To get an idea of what the game I left was like, I left the day after all armor became attunable.

I see there are new tiers on equipment. For instance my AQ6 Gi is considered "Treasured" now. Is this the generally accepted level of gear being used or is "Fabled" or "Legendary" more of a must have?

I see with the new Adventure Pack there is a solo instance available that scales to your level. Would this be a viable place for myself and my 24 Swashie wife to grind the day away in? I have also heard that solo exp has been changed "dramatically". Is there any truth to this? I remember when group mobs had their difficulty increased "slightly" and they became Destroyers of Me

My last question is about Mentoring. How exactly does this work? If I want to say, take my 27 monk to help my wife's level 11 healer, do I need to unequip my current gear and replace it with more level specific gear or does it just scale to the appropriate level? Do my abilities go away while doing this or do they scale. Finally, do I gain any exp while doing this or is it just a way to help a lowbie as opposed to a viable way to still level while playing with friends at a lower level?

Thanks very much in advance,

Andraste

sigh...another one...

I recommend you scroll down a bit a look at the many threads that have asked and answered the same questions.

Here's some quick bits:
Armor- Scan the broker for player-made items. They are generally better than most loot drops. If your gear cons green/gray, time to get some new equipment.
AP - Full zone is not out yet, but pre-order instance is easy with 2 toons. It will scale to the group average level. It was deadly, now it's easy.
Solo - many more solo and non-agro mobs. I normally take on solo's 3-4 levels above me.
Mentor - right click the person, select mentor. Your level, skills, and armor all scale down to that persons level. Beware...you will temporarily loose all spells above your current mentor level. All buffs need to be recast. The mentor looses 95% of exp gained.

Whoa, sorry if this has been asked before ;)

I just see a ton of either unanswered or poorly answered threads about:

Is WoW or EQ2 better?

I wanted specifics about certain things that werent addressed in those threads.

Welcome back!

This game seems to be evolving at an impressive rate. Some changes you may cheer while others you may boo, but IMHO, all have been made in what the dev team considers our collective best interest.

I believe that the new labels on items were just added to quantify the origin of certain things. For example to differentiate between a chest drop and a quest reward. Nothing changed in the quality of the item, just the tag. So while there might be better stuff out there, your stuff is still the same.

Additionally, for most folks, I don't think any particular item or level of gear is a "must have" at this time so unless you're in a T5 raiding guild, I don't think you'll need to "dress to impress"!

The new adventure pack does indeed offer a solo/small group instance and many of us are going in alone. A DPS/healer duo is an excellent choice for this instance. A monk/swashy might also do very well there, you'd just have to try it.

The only people I have heard about having a tough go of it are some solo int casters.

Solo play has also been much improved. Many of the mobs that you may remember as being group mobs are now solo mobs. Examples of these include the bears in Oakmyst Forest and the scarecrows in Antonica.

And finally, regarding mentoring, when you mentor down, all of your equipment scales down to your new temporary level. So no, you don't need to change out your gear, it just won't protect you quite as well as it did before!

However, any skills/spells that are higher than your new level are unavailable so you wil need to dust off the older versions which luckily, are still in your spell book. The good news is that you have plenty of extra hot bars just for situations like this!

And last of all, yes, when you mentor you will continue to gain exp on those mobs that are no longer gray to you - but at a reduced rate. To help make up for this, the person being mentored gets an XP bonus for being a good student.

The closer you are in level to a person you are mentoring, the less the xp penalty. If you are a level 50 toon mentoring a level 7 toon, you will get a 95% xp penalty. However, if you are a level 25 toon mentoring a level 23 toon, you will only incur a 75% penalty. I haven't seen a smaller xp penalty than 75%, if you have please let us know &_&
