Im gonna pick up a gamecard, but before i do i wanted to ask a few things.

1) I plan on dumping my level 10 paladin, found it boring and want a pet/healer class. At which point, ill be able to select a new server. I understand the population is having issues on the servers, and each server has its own issues. Which server is the one with the most active, high level players?

2) How are the tradeskills? I come from FFXI and WoW, FFXI as some know has a very complex and intracit tradecraft system, while WoW's is very watered down. Of which of these games is the crafting system like or is it of its own new thing?

3) I dont know much of the classes in EQ2. I had 255 days played on my shaman in EQ, so i have a ton of experience in the everquest classes. Are they similar to how they were in EQ, solo ability aside.

4) How good is the raid content. Raiding is a great joy for me, in all MMOs. I loved the everquest raiding system, so i ask what the differences are and what its like for raids.

5) How has the game changed since early February?

1. There is still no way to get ahold of server population unless you count and add each class on each server. I know that Najena is amply populated. Maybe check out the SOE rankings page to help decide which server to go to.

If you want a pet class, look at Mage/Summoner/Conjurer (good) Necromancer (evil).

2. TS'ing is complex and deep. You start to craft almost like going into combat. You must pay attention and click certain spells/skills to advance your progress and maintain durability. Recent changes and recipie additions has made player-made armor, weapons, and items very desirable.

3. Check out this site, click on Characters for a description of classes. (I really miss Beastlords)

One big change is EQ2 Mage/Summoners are now more like EQ1 Druids. They have mainly DoT's but no player-heals. Wizards/Warlocks are the big nukers. There are too few utility spells (I really miss Levitation), and most of the spell line is damage, de-buff, or DS.

4. Don't know about raids, not there yet. There seems to be a general opinion of a lack of content at high levels. I'll let others speak to that.

5. Too many patches and changes to speak of. But here is the Live Update page at SOE.

Probably one of the biggest changes was the addition of solo content. You will find many more mobs that are solo-able. Many agro mobs were changed to non-agro, and when you agro, run and are being chased, they will spot chasing much sooner.

You also have Vitality that gives you a double-exp bonus. The longer you adventure, the lower your vitality, until it's gone. It replenishes at .6% per actual hour, so it takes about a week to get back to 100%. This allows casual gamers to keep pace with hard core gamers.

Many new quests, content, instances, and loot. If you haven't played since February, stand by for a massive patch update download. I hope you have cable...

Not sure which is the most active but you can see population when creating a character. I know the roleplaying servers are pretty full. Especially AB.

Tradeskills are the best implementation of tradeskills in any game IMO. It may seem a bit complex at first but once you learn it it's easy to do. And it's not as easy as WoW. Haven't played FFXI so don't know the comparison there.

As far as similarities go there are some and then there aren't some. They are better suited to soloability in EQ2 vs EQ. Of course I played a bard in EQ so I could solo decently but it's a lot easier to solo in EQ2 vs EQ. THere would be a huge list of things that are the same and not the same so I'll point you to the class specific forums here. THey genreally have a lot of good helpful info.

There's probably been quite a few changes since February. For one pretty much everything is attunable now. They've improved Tradeskills and made them more user friendly. They've improved the griffons(up until a couple weeks ago now they are freaking slower then they were at launch). There has been severeal changes. Too many to list here. If you go over to the official EQ2 forums they have a forum just about update and if I'm correct they still have what did since launch.

Anyway hopefully that helps you some. =)

As playing a pet class I can tell you a paladin will:

1. Get a group easier. It seems like tanks are the hardest class to find, especially at higher levels.

2. Solo ALOT better.

I wish I had made a tank class. I get annoyed constantly at running from grey heroic mobs while I watch paladins solo ^^greens and ^^blues.

^^ I don't know what you are doing wrong but I still to this day solo green and blue^^ ups.. make sure to ad3 and master 1 certain spells and you will be good to go... check out eq2.eqsummoners.com for all the pet love you can ever think of.

Right now pet casters are limited in groups and raids cause dots do not stack.. this is about to change and you can pretty much bet they will be wanted very much so in end game.

True, but with a little coordination, that can be overcome.

One can cast the Single DoT's (red icons) and the other can cast the AE DoT's (green icons). And since they both use the same HO timer, the can whip out single-effect HO's quickly.

A 41 Conjurer and I were working writs in Everfrost (wolves and explorers) We were easily taking on 45^ solo's and 41-42 groups (non-^^). Both our pets were Adept 3. We hammered through the required 50 mobs in an hour.

Neither of us, however, would even try one of the ^^'s.

When the DoT stacking comes into play, multiple Conjurers in groups will be a significant boost. Maybe we can try some of those ^^'s. :)

I don't know what I am doing wrong either then. But pretty much every caster I talk to in game says the same thing I am saying. I have pet buffs (agitation, vexation, and one of the others. Vexation is adept 3, the other two are adept 1. My pet is the soldier (tank pet) and it is adept 3. I have never seen master 1's of any of these spells except the time I seen the master 1 pet spell and it sold for some crazy amount of money. All my other spells are adept 1.

Basically when I take on a ^^ mob 1 of 2 things will happen.

1. My pets health will go down really fast, in most cases before the mob is even out of the green on its health my pet will be dead.

2. Even without casting a single dot I will get agression from healing my pet and then Im dead in about 5 or 6 hits. I might get about 5 heals out if I do no DPS, if I am casting dots I get about 3 heals before I have aggression.

Gear wise I have the t5 rare imbued stuff, I watch broker every single day and never see any upgrades. Other then the super rare fabled gear from raid mobs I got about the best money can buy.

Then you may have to do what I do, fronglo, just give up on the ^^'s.

It's sad but a harsh reality: Mages can't solo ^^'s.

I just target solo mobs 3-4 levels above me. It's slower, but it works.

A few days ago I watched a guy solo 2 blue ^^'s...I cried.
