Rangers in dungeons?Follow

Hi,

I have a 27 Ranger and have been spending alot of time between Fallen Gate and Ruins of Varsoon. I am starting to feel out of place and a possible detriment to my groups. As predicted, most of my good combat arts involve the use of the bow. More than once I try to get some distance from the mob to use my bow and wind up aggroing a wanderer. I have some close quarter button mashers and stealth attacks but seem to be consistently out-damaged by Assassins in close quarters. I realize dungeons are not the ideal place for Rangers, but was wondering if I should just avoid them altogether for wide open spaces. Thanks.

Personally, I never cared much for dungeons. I always preferred the open air where I can control the situation and the tactics.

When leading a group, I have always tried to set up a "clean" camp... that is, a place where mobs could be pulled with minimal risk of adds and other hi-risk variables.

All that said, I still don't think rangers are a liability or even at much of a disadvantage in a dungeon. You just have to use the proper tools in that enviornment.

If you're attracting wandering aggressive mobs when you try to get some distance for a bow shot, switch to a short bow, (shorter range but faster refresh & more punch) and try using sneak when you move away from the group. If your sneak is higher than the mob, they shouldn't see you till you reveal with the bow shot. And then only if they are "close enough".

Or, you might try polishing those sneak-attack skills like Shadowblade. While it's true that assassins have a wider variety of these than rangers do, we still get our share. I frequently duo with another ranger who loves to sneak up behind the mob and open with a stealth attack followed up with an HO. I get to stand off at a distance and pepper the mob with arrows... big fun!
