My bow does no damageFollow

#1 Jun 13 2005 at 1:12 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a 15th level predator. I have Gregor's old bow. I have fair arrows. Here's my problem. When I use the bow it does very little or no damage. The same holds true if a use back shot. It doesn't matter if I sneak or not sneak. What am I doing wrong, or is this a bug? Help!

at 15th level, you won't do a lot of damage under any conditions. Moving from tin arrows to iron arrows will help a little, (if you haven't already done that), but don't expect to really put a smackdown on the mobs from a distance until you get up past lvl 20.

At this point in time, your bow is a good pulling tool... and not much more... but it does get better soon!

I play a ranger and on average at lvl 25, I hit for about 200 - 250 with back shot and for 75 - 85 X 2 with double shot. I carry a rare imbued bow and use carbonite arrows.

Remember that if you intend to go assassin at 20, you still won't do near as much damage with your bow as a ranger...

Safe travels to you...

Thanks. It is greatly appreciated. I also liked you comments on duel weapons. I use what I can afford and it seems to work well.

Happy trails,

You want to do more damage? Use poison. Acidic Goo I believe is what you need. Equip it,right click and hit 'use'. THEN you'll see a noticeable difference in your hits!! Using a bow without poison doesn't do much, but use the poison and you'll see a marked difference. As you get higher, use carbonite arrows...NOT cheap in bunches,unfortunately...and use Mordant Goo poison. Some folks make their own...I haven't and haven't used any so can't comment. But use poison....

I agree, always use poisons. At level 36 now my best single shot hit was for 564 damage.

I use an imbued cedar bow and feyiron arrows.

Arrows are costly so upgrade spell makeshift arrows to adept 1 or better as soon as you can.

Rangers really shine in an outdoor zone, underground takes alot more skill.

When in an underground zone drop spell called Blade Fury because this draws unwanted adds. Also stay at minimum distance from mob to use your bow.Again because of adds.

Rangers deal the greatest amount of damage of all the scout classes.

Enjoy

Another tip to try to squeeze out a bit more bow damage is using imbued weapons along with your bow... your primary and secondary weapons will proc on bow hits, and a slower bow will proc a greater % on every hit... so if your using bow skills an imbued long bow with imbued weapons will proc a lot for ya, helps almost double your damage on bowskills that hit more than once

Just to make sure we're all on the same page here...

Imbued melee weapons do not cause your bow to proc and an imbued bow does not cause your primary and secondary weapons to proc. If you want bow procs, you must have an imbued bow and if you want weapon procs you need imbued weapons. If you want everything to proc... well... you're just gonna have to chip in and buy 3 imbued weapons!

please note - when imbued weapons first became available there was a bug that caused all 3 slots to proc if there was an imbued weapon anywhere... but this was fixed months ago.

As of at least 2 weeks ago my SSoY would indeed proc on bowshots, and I could proc gleaming strike (from my dual wield weapons) on my non-imbued bow, may have changed since then but I would at least look into it, or it may be a dirge only thing?

Quoted from SOE forum - Live Update News - Update #7 April 20, 2005:
Quote:
*** Tradeskills ***

- Imbued weapons can no longer cause other weapons that are equipped to proc.

I noticed a day or so after this that my imbued bow no longer caused my non-imbued primary and secondary weapons to proc and sprang for a couple of imbued DW weapons.

If some subsequent update broke the fix then that's what it is... otherwise, I couldn't say for sure...
