hello, i am currently switching from XI to EQII.... because EQII kicks XIs ***. besides, i am having a problem installing EQII. My comp CURRENTLY is running on XP, 2.66 GH, 254 RAM (>.>) Optimum Online, my graphics card memory is 64 MB. ok so the problem is that it says in the book to put in the disk... there are two. i put in both. neither one reads. it just sits there i even went to my computer and nothing was showing up. i dont know why its doing this but it doesnt do that on my other comp with 1 GH of ram and a GeForce4 MX graphics card and 64 MB. (i would be playing on that one but.... GeForce 4 MX versions dont work >.< #$%^!) so is it not reading because of my ram? someone please help me out, and can someone tell me if this graphics card will work with EQII i have a Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller Chip Type and its name is Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller, if someone could answer both my questions i would really me thankful ^^

I'm glad you think EQ2 "kicks XIs ***" but I think you're gonna need to upgrade if you wanna play.

Taken from the SOE FAQ:

Hardware Requirements FAQ

What are the minimum hardware requirements for running EverQuest II?

Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: 1 GHz
RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

What are the reccomended hardware specifications for the game?

Operating System: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
Processor: 2 GHz or greater
RAM: 1 GB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible; pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 128 MB or more of texture memory
Sound Card: DirectSound compatible audio hardware

Now, in reality, I don't think you can even run EQ2 on 64MB of vid card, (although that is listed as the minimum requirement). 128MB seems to be the default and you'll need 256MB if you want to see anything beyond "balanced" performance.

Also the lvl of ram you listed, (254MB), is too low to run the game effectively. 512MB is the recommended minimum but still probably won't run smoothly so you're really looking at a gig to play the game with a minimum of chop and lag.

I think the intel graphics cards are also problematic but since the card you listed is way too small, that point is moot.

Regarding the disk not loading in the one computer, do you have a CD drive or a DVD drive? Are you trying to load a DVD version of EQ2 in a CD drive?

and yes i know i need more RAM, i have 2 comps like i said my other one has a GH of RAM >.< and a GeFroce 4 MX... which doesnt work. but i have a dvd drive and a cd drive neither one works.... i dont know why but does it have to do with the ram cause it works with the other one.

If you can run other DVD's and CD's then it sounds like you have a defective set of game disks. Take them back to the store for an exchange.

Quick searching and reading of forums shows problems with that Intel chipset for games. You can get a 128MB GeForce 5200 with pixel/vertex for under $100.

Remember to disable the onboard video chipset when you install the new card.

I'd say almost certainly you are trying to read DVDs in a CD-ROM drive. EQ2 uses 2 DVDs, these are 4.7 GB not 600 MB CD's like you are used to. Get a DVD drive to replace that CD-ROM drive. Expect to pay about $30 if you shop carefully.

So the drives don't work or the disks don't work?

If you can't get any CD or DVD to work in your drives, then it seems your drives don't work, and you won't install anything.

You're trying to install DVD ROMS using a CD ROM drive. It won't work.
